Weird Facebook ads

I've put this in the off topic forum 'cos I can't think of a handle to post it in the main forum.

These ads (attached) appeared on my Facebook page today. Are they meant to be a joke? Does the advertiser think curiosity will make potential buyers click? I don't get it.

    I don't know if those particular ads work, but I've seen similar ads on several newspaper sites. They must work, they've been running for well over a year.

    They seem to be the visual equivalent of National Enquirer headlines -- outlandish enough to arouse curiosity.
