Turned on the news to see a seagull sitting on the smokestack at the Papal conclave...someone has started a twitter for him with "just hanging out here...."

Who could not be reminded of Jonathan Livingston Seagull...always striving for "better"?

hahaha - Please tell 'Jonathan' to leave one of his calling cards @ the "papal conclave'

    It will be most appropriate.

    LMAO Kay,

Who could not be reminded of Jonathan Livingston Seagull...always striving for "better"?
Only you, Kay. Only you. Pretty funny thought though. The more I reach into my memory to dig up parts of that book the funnier it gets.

    Ahhhh...Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Back in about 8th grade we had an assignment to create a scene from a book we had read. Basically, the assignment was to do something "artsy" with an old cardboard shoebox.

Because the book was so short and the scene so easy to do, EVERY SINGLE GUY in the class used Jonathan Livingston Seagull. We all had our show boxes with a little seagull hanging by a string and a scene of the ocean.

The teacher wasn't very happy, but there really wasn't anything he could really do. It's one of my fondest school memories.

Seriously? 8th grade? You're younger than I thought you were. I thought you were my age.

That seagul from today is now becoming the stuff of legends - too bad he doesn't have his own name.

Because the new Pope is a Franciscan, it's now being said the seagull was fitting for a man who lived simply and without worldly comforts.

Apparently before they give a smoke signal, the chimney has warm air pumped in from the bottom to ensure the smoke will rise. That led to conjecture the seagull moved only when he felt the warm air and knew the time had come to announce a new Pope.

Eloquent and meaningful way to say the bird left when a puff of hot air hit his nether section.
