I seem not to have gotten the loud noise fear - but that phobia of heights is still with me. More ledges and drop offs than heights though.

I don't think I have any phobias really. Dolls and ventriloquist dummies are coming close to one, though - man I hate those things.

Hi HeySal, the loud noise i think can be evident when you have a baby and there's thunder.

They cry everytime from my own experience.

As for heights, actually u can conquer it by doing it.
Like the 1st time i repel down a platform just over 3 stories, my legs were wobbling like crazy on the platform so much so that i felt i was gonna fall off just from my soft legs. lol.

But after going down, u sort of conquer it, the 2nd time up there, u dont feel it anymore.

The same cant be said for other fears like spiders, that one takes more time i guess. haha
I saw a documentary that was about phobia therapy and they asked the women to visualise a spider, then they let her touch fakes spiders, then progressed to real spiders. It takes alot of time.

As for ventriloquis, damn, i find them scary to the core man!
When i was a kid. It just creeps me out.
So i totally agree with you on this.!

Thunder never bothered me - or my sister. My mother always found that as completely strange as the fact neither of us cared if we had ice cream or not.

As for heights - um..........I climb mountains and I've driven over mt roads that have made passengers puke they were so frightening. I will never get over vertical drop offs - don't care to. Been on a rope once...in a rescue and next time if it's on me to be on a rope to save someone's life......good freaking luck to them. I thought I was going to have a coronary. I also jumped out of a plane once ( I believe that we need to experience as much as possible in this life). It was the worst experience I've ever had and I'm astounded I lived through it. I was so damned scared that I just laid on the ground for twenty minutes or so after we landed (I was strapped to an instructor). I couldn't have moved even if I had wanted to. You've heard about people being so scared they pee themselves? I was so scared I couldn't. But I actually did it so not sure if that even counts as a phobia.

Hi there Scotty.

Im not expert in this field.

But i think its not as simple logic as that.

I used to me afraid of heights.
But as a kid, i loved to climb things.
I climb my door frame. [if u can imagine]
I climbed and dangle of the playgrounds. [i used playgrounds not the way it was built to be

]
I climbed trees even.

But put me at the top of a repelling platform, my legs go wobbly.
So there is a difference. It doesnt mean i climb tress so im not afraid of heights.
It just means that height is not enough to make me afraid off. hahaha

As for loud noises, again, love screaming doesnt = love loud noises.

Thunder may not be a good example for this because there is an eliment of shock. So he might cry becos of shock not the loudness.

U can try shouting at the baby though.
If u had a bad day at work, try shouting at the baby as an experiment. [while he is young before he starts understanding why u shout at him for no reason..lol]

Lastly, babies try everything because their mind is new to the world.
They learn from touching and experiencing.
And since they dont know anything, they dont have any knowledge of fear other than the 2 supposed born phobia.
Thus their try and try behavior is based on naive and ignorance.
Not that they fear they will fail.

oh btw, just wanna share.

I have a phobia of pills. [if there is such a thing]

But it was learned.

I used to pop pills like panadol when i have fever.
As a kid, i laid down in bed, pop a pill and swallowed it and go back to slp.

But 1 fine day, i chocked on a pill becos i was lying down.
Ever since that day, which i tot i was gonna die of suffocation, i still remember the feeling, i till this day do not eat pills, if i have to, i will crush the pills and dissolve it in water or milo. :p

I went to the doctor recently and he initially gave me pills for some rashes, i asked him for liquid solutions and the recep stared at me like "how old is this guy" lol.

So now im back to drinking colourful drugs like in my early early childhood days. remember all the colourful liquid meds. haha

Yeah, when I was a kid, ventriloquist dummies freaked me out. And I still don't like looking at dolls that look like babies. No idea why.

When I was a kid, I forced myself to overcome my fear of heights and fear of lightning......but deep down, I still must be afraid of heights, because I get a slight adrenalin rush looking over tall roofs. But lightning? I love a good thunderstorm.

I dislike snakes but not lizards. No idea why the difference.

When I was a little kid, I saw The Twilight Zone episode with a live dummy. It scared me to death.

In 1973, The Exorcist came out. I watched it in a packed theater. When it was over...everyone walked out without making a sound. It was the single scariest event in my life.

Maybe it was my religious upbringing, maybe it was the fact that this movie was unique...but I didn't sleep for two nights afterward.

Clowns, dummies, dolls....I don't know what the trigger is, but they scare a lot of us.

Interesting stuff.

My parents used to let me watch twilight zone and outer limits before bed and the only ones that got to me were the ones with dolls. I never found the exorcist that scary. That clown doll in Poltergeist got me. I went to France to the Louvre when I lived in Germany and they had a display of carvings from Africa out front. My ex bought two of those = a man and a woman, and I ended up giving them away. I also had a little nutcracker from the Blackforest. It's creepy as heck - and in a box instead of on display.

I think there is only one inbuilt fear at the get go and thats the fear of failure because all babies try and try and try because they don't want to fail

The fear of SUCCESS is a big one that is learnt through "tall poppy syndrome" very common here in Aus and other Westernized cultures.

It's funny because we all have different perspectives of reality so throwing in our differrent experience to boot makes the original question infinate.

What do you feel?
Go off your gut instinct and correct as you go as all our journeys are going to be different.

I am not terrified of heights but have a healthy dislike to them, and that could just be due to falling off a roof when I was younger and breaking my arm so badly it looked at a twisted match.

It has never really been the falling that bothers me, but the bouncing off the floor when I reach my destination.

I don't do well with heights. Avoid them at all costs. However, I'm absolutely terrified of wasps or anything to do with the the wasp family...wasps,yellow jacket's, hornets etc. Those damn things are evil!

I dont fear heights, I always freefall from buildings in swimming pool. When i was a child,I fell from a two flored house jumped off the terrace chasing a bird. (holy sh..t, what the hell was i doing. I think I had the feeling that i can fly) thanks that there was sand below and I just broke my leg.

Sounds, maybe but not to much. I was a DJ for 2 years playing that high volumed songs all night long. I had a bif bomb fire cracker explode near me that made a hearless for 5 minutes.

What I fear most is lizard, lonelyness, and yes my neighbour girl, LOL!!
