Help with Quotation marks

I am hoping someone can help me with a "simple" editing issue.

I have a large document and I want to change the quotation marks from

'this' to "this"
The "this" should be the curly ones, not the straight ones.

I know I can use the find/replace feature and it works for the front but if I do it for the closing marks, it also changes all apostrophes.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to make the changes without having to do them individually? There are over 2000 of them.

Thanks in advance.

Use replace but enter a "space" after the symbol you want to replace. That way the apostrophes in words won't be affected.

However, if a single quote is directly followed by a period or comma those will not be replaced.

    Does that make sense?

Thanks Kay. Yes that makes sense and I think it should fix all or most of the issues at the same time. Thanks for the swift response. I didn't want to have to do them individually.
