That's what happened when you memorize a few talking points...and the question doesn't fit any of them.

She actually did pretty well, considering that she wasn't really thinking of an answer.

I've heard just as bad from politicians, who then try to defend their "answers".

Listen to someone (any politician or their supporters) give a talking point, and then ask them to explain part of it. The result usually shows that there is no real thought behind it. Stephen Colbert is expert at drawing this out in his "Better know a district" segments.

It's kind of fun to watch.

I heard something about this this morning on the radio. I felt bad for her. Then another thought crossed my mind...

Who among us hasn't been there?

The couple of times in my life where I have had a synapse-collapse, the people around me were gracious and supportive. I think I'll wait a bit to make any judgement about Miss Utah.

      I owe her that.

P.S. My IQ remains intact, unfortunately it is well below the national average.

    Claude,
I understand what you mean about talking points.but I don't feeel this fits that situation.

Joe, If her answer had any sign of even comprehending the question I would be inclines to agree with you,but it didn't.

PS: It seems that there are sveral of these "moments" every year nowadays.

      I agree.

And, the concept that women make less than men for doing the same work is a myth.
I want to see a comparison of a man and a woman with the same credentials, the same experience, equal in every job related way where the man makes makes more.
      Doesn't happen.

I meant to post this earlier, SHOOT

Claude, you have to be kidding. She went off on the wrong tangent, and there was no tie back to an answer. They have shown that women tend to be less distracted in highschool AND, today, are more likely to go to college. Many disciplines aren't properly taught in college, and there is no class taught to tell how to get a job. The problem clearly is NOT education on behalf of those looking for work.

Our local newspaper site had a video clip of her and a blond contestant from a few years prior that was even sillier. You could tell she didn't know where her own thoughts were leading her. That is a very awkward position to be in -- and I should know, I never know where my thoughts are taking me.

      True.
But. I will generally just say, "Don't ask me. I'm crazy. And I have the meds to prove it!":p

She doesn't need brains. Some rich guy'll make it so she'll never have to work
        a day in her life.

Which is a good thing. Because God only knows what she's capable of doing.

I remember seeing some other pretty embarrassing times when contestants could not answer questions or gave an answer that was pretty far out. She's just one more casualty of blank mind syndrome. I'm not sure I could even manage to say anything on TV.

Obviously - but who comes up with these stupid questions? The question was good for another -10 points before she even started to answer.

She has options - she can marry rich or run for office.
