Well, this music is from a year ago, but I sort of want to get back into it. What do you think?

First off, I'm going to assume you want honest feedback. As a musician myself,
I hate when people are polite and tell you what you want to hear. It doesn't
help you at all if they're just feeding your ego.

Having said that, and putting aside my personal feelings that I just don't like
rap music, this is what I think.

The recording quality is excellent. So you shouldn't have any problems submitting
it to whoever. It's more than presentable.

If I take the vocals away and just listen to the music, it's interesting. It's a
little monotonous as it seems to be the same thing over and over, but there is
something about it that I liked. I can't put my finger on it. It was catchy.

As I don't know the rap genre well at all these days (actually, I am totally
out of touch with pop music these days) I can't tell you if it's commercial or
not or if anybody would be interested in it.

I think you have a good foundation to work from. But I'm not really qualified
to tell you if you have a "hit" on your hands.

If music is a serious thing for you, go for it. I've been writing for over 35 years
and while I don't have a lot to show for it, I would never quit. I have now
moved on to classical music as I finally figured out that I just don't have
what it takes to make it in the pop field.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I really appreciate your post. I just turned 18, and I know it's really not that great. It was a year ago, and I've advanced a lot. I will be submitting more music to YouTube soon. However, music IS something I want to portray, and I know if I work hard enough, I can do it.

Probably the most important thing for you to do, if you want to do this
professionally, is decide what area of music you want to enter (I assume
rap, R&B, hip hop, etc.) and then listen to as much of the top songs right now
to see what's selling. It's hard to come up with something completely different
and make a name for yourself. You have to conform to some degree because
A&R people are so scared of taking chances that they're simply looking for
something that sounds like what's already selling.

Of course you can try to make it on your own with no backing at all but that's
going to take as much marketing as it will actual talent.

Music is a killer field. For every one person that makes it, there are 100,000
        that don't make it.

You're young, so you have that in your favor. Just prepare yourself for a lot
of hard knocks along the way. It will NOT be easy by any stretch of the
        imagination.
