Windows 7 outsells 8 in Sept

And it couldn't have been easy. When you buy a new laptop these days, mostly 7 isn't even a possibility. 8 is already installed. An exception is Lenovo. When I ordered one there a few months ago, 7 was the default OS and 8 was an option.

It's been a bit of a peeve of mine. 8 does do some things better than 7, but as far as organization goes, and getting things done from the desktop, it's just (mostly) more clumsy. Not a big deal. I happened to need 8 and you can improve the default settings a fair amount so I just accept an extra click here and there, and there, and there etc.

      YAY! That must mean PC users are getting smarter!

      my roomie has 8 , and I am happily and stubbornly sticking to 7 - I will even buy more licensed copies of 7 when and if I have to buy another laptop/pc just to over-write 8 if I had to.

      Windows 8 to me sucks big time. I'll stick with my windows 7 until something better than 8 comes out.

        I love my Windows 7 and in no way, shape or form will I give it up, especially for 8.

          Yep, have 7, but you won't have to hoard 7, Microsoft usually brings out a crap OS, then a great one!

          It seems that Apple is doing the same thing, must make bigger profits overall, but long term????

    I won't ever use 8. Maybe whatever comes next but who knows. I jumped from XP to Windows 7 and skipped Vista as that was bad too.

    I have purchased 3 computers from Dell this past month and the sales reps there informed me that they have raised the prices on the windows 7 machines because so many people are returning the 8's. I bought an 8, couldn't stand it & called to return it and they convinced me to keep it for a while longer, so I ordered 2 7 units to fill in the gap. Everything I install on the 8 doesn't work right. I can't even get Microsoft Office to work properly. It shows that it is installed, but when you try to do anything, you get a message "Word is not working' ... so frustrating!

      Arrrrm, with the Word file, if it is Word 2003 for example, and when you got W8 it had a trial version installed, for a limited time, and you or the manufacturer registered it, then yes, older versions won't work at all.

      All you can do apart from tearing the registry apart, and hoping that you don't spill anything is to reinstall it again!

      When l got my Laptop with 7, before the 8 crap occurred, l didn't register my free Word trial, as l have heard about someone who did, with W7, and then couldn't load the original older version back again, or had to spend $150 on the newest one, or reinstall W7 OS again!


      But if you didn't register it, (trial Word 2013) then the OS is to blame!

    I also not a fan of Windows 8 because of it's GUI and I hate those icon thumbnails that's why I am sticking to Windows 7.

    And I found another news topic that says nearly the same thing, except that it's been going on longer. Just thought I'd post it under the original topic and keep things tidy

    Windows 7 is still growing faster than Windows 8

    It's rather surprising that 7 is still outselling 8, and I doubt if this has ever happened with a major OS before.

      You can still find Windows 7. I bought a new Dell last month from the business section of the Dell site - with windows 7 pro on it. It was on sale, too, another plus!

      Will hopefully get it set up tomorrow - it's been sitting waiting for a new monitor I ordered - and the monitor arrived today.

    Yeah, Windows 8.1 was preinstalled on my new computer. My monitor is not touchscreen. Win 8, with a desktop mode and other mode, like having two operating systems running at once. Weird and nasty.
