I heard palm oil was bad - thought it was for health reasons...........but you have to see this article, and the picture to believe what is going on with that. You like Orangutangs? They are being tortured right off the map by palm oil companies. It's crazy.

OMG OMG OMG - what the hell are we doing?

You will never EVER see another product with palm oil in my shopping basket or kitchen. OMG - - I'm just sick about this.

Thanks guys - Steve your link is a good one, but not the same one - I fixed it.

Man - what the hell happens to the mind of a human when they turn into corporations and find they can make tons of money if they cause enough pain and suffering? Some people just really need to be "helped" off the face of the planet. There was a time when they would have been. What is WRONG with us?

To tell you the truth, OTHER oils are often used as well, and they probably originally had better sustainable ways. This is *********ANOTHER********** case of the lack of duties and encouraging outsourcing and the like hurting things.

Just TODAY I got some protein and one selling point is that it is sourced in the US!!!!!!! The us is like the 2nd or 3rd best place to get protein, but MOST protein in the US comes from possibly the WORST place to get it, which is CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We THINK it is cheaper because you can buy more weight for fewer dollars. But the idea is NOT to buy WEIGHT! You are supposed to buy a certain amount(usually determined by weight) of PROTEIN!!!!!!! The chinese might add cadmium, lead, nickle, malamine which not only reduce the effect of the protein and drive up the need for it, but they drive up the WEIGHT as well! BTW I am listing out things actually FOUND in POPULAR proteins in the US. The one thing they have in common? CONCENTRATED WHEY! The main US importer of concentrated whey which they use? CHINA!!!!!!

But companies don't often care. They figure 5 pounds is 5 pounds. So they STILL get paid for 5 pounds even though your net gain may even end up being a LOSS! Cadmium, nickle, and lead are ALL harmful metals! Melamine has caused deaths, as it is a poison.

In case heysal doesn't correct the link:

    http://wwf.panda.org/about_our_earth...tans_palm_oil/

Frankly, i am exposed to palm oil only by third party processing. Most oils I like are from areas FAR from orangutans and most such animals. Orangutans are large, land dwelling, and made for certain habitats so it isn't like they can just move to any other place. It would be almost like asking a dolphin to move to LA.

But yeah, humans have encroached on too much land, it IS sick! They want to hurt every company, and change everyones life abruptly when they should be targeting things like this. YEAH, this hurts the orangutan, and you figure maybe they don't do anything special. WHO'S to say? MAYBE they DO! But cutting down their trees DOES hurt the landscape, increase carbon dioxide, and decrease oxygen! It ALSO hurts the habitat for MANY more creatures!

ANOTHER site: Palm Oil and How it threatens Orangutans

    What Products Contain Palm Oil?

Palm oil is the second most widely produced edible oil. Each year, Australia imports approximately 130,000 tons of palm oil.

Palm oil and its derivatives are found in around 50 percent of all packaged foods on Australian shelves. It has a longer shelf life than other vegetable oils making it more appealing for food production. Palm oil is found in many food products including biscuits, chips, crackers and batters. It is also found in toothpaste, soap, shampoo and cosmetics.

In recent years palm oil based biodiesel has entered the European market. While biofuel has been promoted as an effective means of reducing emissions, establishing palm oil plantations increases greenhouse emissions. Although Australia does not currently offer palm oil based biodiesel, if crude oil prices continue to rise the demand for biofuels may increase.

    Names for Palm Oil

    Palm oil kernel
    “Palmitate” or “Palmate”
    Elaeis gunieensis
    Hydrated Palm Gylcerides Hexadecanoic
    Palmitic Acid

    Likely to be Palm Oil

Vegetable oil (if product contains saturated fats, it's most likely palm oil!!)
    Anything containing “stearate, stearyl”
Anything containing the words “cetyl, cetearyl”
    Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)
    Sodium Laureth Sulphate
    Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate
    (SDS or NaDS) Sodium
    Calcium Stearoyl Lactylate Steareth -2
    Steareth -20 Emulsifier 422, 430-36, 465-67, 470-8, 481-483

As for the link, I had no way of finding YOUR link, so I found a couple covering the problem. I actually kind of like some animals, insects, etc..., and orangutans are in that number. And HEY, to all the evolutionists, etc... The family that humans are in includes ORANGUTANS! YEP! HUMANS, GORILLAS, CHIMPANZEES, and ORANGUTANS! Not that it makes a difference to ME. I like lots of other creatures ALSO. But if a person feels indifferent about orangutans, which are often considered rather harmless and have historically been simply left alone, what other animals would they hurt?

Orangatangs are the closest creatures to us - 97% DNA match. I don't care so much about that - what is extremely bothering to me is the way these creatures are being treated. People perpetrating that kind of treatment, and those who are doing it because they are "just following orders" should be shot on sight. We don't need monsters ruling this planet.
