Name Dropping

Sometimes I'll make up fictional names and throw them into the conversations I have with people. Many people nod knowingly or even add a word of praise for the fictional person. It is a technique I picked up from direct marketing pioneer J. Thomas Oxford to ascertain who's going to be upfront with me.

        My dear, not all parties involve alcohol.

        Of course, for the ones that did, I pulled that rabbit out of the hat early on.

      My friend, Stephen Cheeseburger (correct spelling) recently went Hollywood and shortened his immigrant name to "Cheese" .

      It worked, he recently got a promotion to Mayor of Cleveland. He now goes by...yup....Mayor MacCheese.
