I have high myopia for many years.I feel very sad sometimes.
How about your eyes?

Oh my God! And here was I thinking that going blind in one eye, having a permanent head ache, cancer and a brain tumour was bad enough But MYOPIA!!!!

Oh you poor thing! (Incidentally, it has to be high or it wouldn't reach your eyes).

Now. On to more serious matters - why do you feel sad sometimes? How can we help?

Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

You are nearsighted and that depresses you?

You must lead an easy life if that's a big problem.

I did have high myopia but it was corrected by Lasik a few years ago. However it did not go completely well and I ended up having 3 operations on my L eye.

In the first operation, some astigmatism was introduced as a complication. The second operation was done to correct that but it was botched. It introduced something more horrible called "irregular astigmatism" and I started seeing double vision with traffic lights and it was very irritating.

The technology to correct it was just beginning to be developed and I had to wait almost 4 years to finally correct it.

I was in the first grade the first time I had my eyes examined.
I was told I had a type of nearsightedness that would continue getting worse until I was in my 40's then start to improve.
Growing up anything more then a foot away was fuzzy.
Now after about a year with no glasses I took my first eye exam to renew my drivers license and passed without glasses, the first time sense I started driving at 16 and I just turned 56

Yes I have myopia but I deal with it by wearing contacts. And on occasion glasses. It's no fun having to put those things in and out everyday or spending $250 a year on contacts but I manage  There are worse health problems than nearsightedness.

      Thom -

I've had the same thing happen. I was never highly nearsighted but needed glasses and later contacts for driving .

As I've gotten older my eyesight has improved to normal just because of the tendency to become farsighted as we age. Cool! Gotta love a problem that corrects itself....eventually.

Laser surgery isn't recommended for people with a high degree of myopia. Instead, they can do a different kind of surgery which involves inserting something like contact lenses inside the eyes (it's similar to cataract surgery). Or, if the person also has cataracts, they can just do cataract surgery.

Yes, I also have myopia, but it doesn't bother me at all...

With some ago I was bothered by it, by the fact that I had to wear glasses... but not anymore.

That is not a problem for me anymore, I got used to it...
