If we must suffer through yet another 2012 thread, let's at least make it enjoyable:

Isn't it a shame we can't know for sure that the world will end December 21, 2012? Think about it, if we knew for sure the world will end, that we will all without a doubt die, then we'd be able to finally do what we've always wanted to do without having to worry about the repercussions.

I'd drive as fast as I could on the freeway. Screw the cops and the tickets, stop me if you think you can. Maybe I'd rob a bank. Maybe I'd get on the subway and start grabbing women's asses with abandon. Maybe I'd walk into the Four Seasons lobby and pee on the floor right in front of everyone. Maybe I'd go skydiving and deliberately not pull the cord, just to see what it feels like to watch the Earth fly into my face. Maybe I'd burn all my clothes and just be naked.

Heck, I think I'd start a week ahead of time, just for the hell of it! (I'd better save the skydiving for last.)

What would you do if you knew the world was going to end, without a doubt? What would you do if you knew you would get away with it?

What's missing with all the talk about endings is that each one also signals a BEGINNING. So if there are going to be endings, we can celebrate the beginnings, too. I mean just look how many are already predicted right on this page so far!

Heck I think I'll begin something right now. The last minute just ended.

  Unfortunately for everyone, I don't respond well to doing things on OTHER people's timetables. So - I will pledge to "end it" in 2011. Which of course makes the Mayan prophecy appear foolish. Not so "self-fulfilling" now, is it?
  
  And if Thomas sees this, will he escalate, and pledge to end it in 2010? That will of course prompt me (out of pure ego) to end it in 2009 - - whoops, it already IS 2009. So, like all arms races, in a few days either Thomas or I will "end it" in order to keep up appearances.

Yeh, hello maybe the world ending seems like an attractive alternative to seeing the manifestations of what has been festering in plain site for decades? witness now 'the chickens come home to roost'.

yeh, swell. now we know AND NOW WE GET TO LIVE IN IT.

...that is why the obsession with this? don't worry it will all be over with some day - may be 20 minutes may be 20 mililion gazillion megabytes.

Thank you, Kay. You are always so thoughtful and accommodating (at least that's what HE said).

How bout just before Christmas shopping season. That'll save one big pain in the patoot and give me time to figure out what to wear as well. Don't want to go multi-dimensional in this old ragged wardrobe. I'm thinking something a tad Mayan might be fun and will go well with sensible shoes, which may be a good idea for stepping out into the unknown. I wonder if the music of the spheres is dance worthy?

But THOSE were just because of some religious idiot. As for Y2K, a lot of jerks just spread ridiculous rumors. True, but it's annoying when people assume the worst. People freak out about Nostradamus/2012, but if people actually paid attention the guy made predictions to at LEAST 2100. (I have no real opinion on him myself, this is just what I've read.)

2012 also gets talked about as a time of "spiritual revelation"... it all depends on who you talk to.
