I think these rank right up there with the Blob Fish

    Goblin Shark

The Titicaca water frog, which is described as, "the aquatic scrotum frog" because of two lumps on its back that, yeah, sorta look like testes.

    Naked Mole Rat

    Star Nosed Mole

    Wart Hog

I thought of Jimmy Durante. But it also looks like Alice The Goon, from Popeye the Sailor.

Interestingly enough, many have said that UGLY and MONSTER describe something asymmetrical. That said, something often looks a bit strange about something FULLY symmetrical.

YEAH, that IS overly simplistic, but those above ARE a bit TOO symmetrical! So I guess something HAS to look more ugly! I think the blob fish made the list NOT because it was the ugliest CREATURE, but the ANIMAL that, in its NORMAL/HEALTHY state, looks so ugly to US!

Steve; I can't believe I'm going to say this.

What you said makes perfect sense. And I agree with you.

      Of course, I went through the photos thinking;
      blobfish..Sad Riffle
      Angry Riffle
      Startled Riffle
      Riffle pregnant
      Riffle with a fake nose
      Just Riffle

Dan! I beat you to it.

I feel sorry for this "Claude guy". By the way, did you know that my name is also Claude?

My wife thinks the Manatee is beautiful. OK, to be honest, it looks like me, naked.

The animal above is real. Here on this link is a real life picture of the same animal. It is called an aye aye and lives in Madagascar. Here it is:

Yes, I know, thanks. That's why I searched for a picture of one to post. I chose the artsy image because it liked it better. The one you later linked to was my second choice.

I think that one is cute, too - in an odd sort of way. Maybe like Dennis says, "so ugly it's cute". Would be a pretty neat little pet. What animal family is it from? Rodent? Monkey?

    Ugly is the new beautiful.

This 'sea cow' is doing that Italian gangster hand thang - where they chop the elbow joint as if to say
'fungoo' - and this is entirely appropriate because 'mankind' is making life miserable for manatees - ruining everything...

Here's a few more images of the remarkable looking Blobfish. There are some striking similarities to one or two of the old boys I see huddled over a half-pint, playing dominoes or cards, in any local bar.

Whilst it's debatable as to whether it's the ugliest creature, I think there's no doubt it's the strangest.

I don't find a lot of those things ugly. I do find the blobfish nightmarish and it is because of the human features. The first time I saw a pic of them I just assumed it was photoshop until I learned otherwise. That animal would get into my dreams, and not in a good way.

Seriously, that was my first thought. It's almost as disturbing as if you found a fish with a human head. Did you see it in Men In Black 3? It was in the Chinese Restaurant.

I don't remember what scene you're referencing, but since you mentioned it = and this is one real 180 from the topic sorry -- There was another movie that was computerized and had a space ship landing on earth - comedy -- and I wanted to watch it again but don't remember the name of it. It was something like Evolution?

Anyhow - back to how frightening these fish are. I am a Clive Barker fan. I SAW a movie of his once and in it there was a dog with a man's head and it was one of the most singly disturbing episodes in horror fiction I've ever seen. I watched the Exorcist - thought it was good but it didn't spook me like Barkers man faced dog..........And that is what looking at that blob fish is like. It's just deeply discomforting.
