And it's going to be worst by tomorrow, they're calling for -40 degrees with the windchill.

I'm a couple hundred miles north of you. Our forecast is even worse. It's 15 below right now and that's supposed to be the high temperature today. The low is supposed to be -26, and wind chills from -50 to -55.

Is there anyone who lives where it's warm that wants a houseguest for a few days?

Rest assured it is a warm icestorm!!!!

So you will freeze to death on the warmer side of freezing!

Why am l defending GW loonies?????

I do live in a warmer loc, but all full here! He, he!

But there us plenty of room in the outback, (temp, have almost reached 50 degrees Celsius) or open oven hot, this week, but l guess the warm ice is to blame?

I'm going on a ski trip to Darwin next year, with record highs, that warm ice will provide a better ski resort than anywhere else in the world, and it'll be as warm as an oven at the same time.

Can't wait, see you there Shane. I heard Alice Springs was good for ice in summer too.

Why on earth America has all this snow when it's so cold is beyond me. I thought it'd be like a dessert.

No, apparently, record freezing temp, are caused by world temp, going up?

Or heat being trapped in the oceans, (eventhough they have been there for 15 years while world temp, haven't moved?

But it is inevitable someone from here will explain why l am wrong with a half page of gobbledygook science!

Maybe they can explain how warm ice works! He, he!

Probably need a full page to explain that one?

      Shane

Darwin, eh, hmmm, l got as far as Cairns, and remember being in an air conditioned plane, and stepping out of that plane at the airport!

It will be like stepping from a fridge into an oven, but you will get used to it!

Just be careful of crocks, and box-gellyfish and especially those nasty cane toads, (Yuck)!

Hopefully you are timing it with the wet season, or you will step into humid torrential rain and closed roads?

We got our arctic blast a week or two ago. -26 one night in Central Oregon of all places. It gets cold here, but not THAT cold. The bad cold only lasted a week at least. Now it's normal cold except we had a few days in the high thirties, low forties and all the snow melted. Looking at the sky, I'm thinking we're going to be getting some more snow real soon, though. We have a ski resort up the road so there are a lot of people here that actually get happy about that. The only thing I like about it is that it prevents fires later in the year when it's hot.

It was -55 where I live yesterday and there was a 15 min wait at the redbox I went to.

(To put into perspective of how much it bothers us here)

Yep, just read an article in today's paper, with a Mini - Ice Age heading!

It went on to say how America is going through a particularly cold spell, as well as Hawaii getting snow on its highest mountain!

So at the moment we are going through Global warming,......ammmm,.......cooling,.......ammm, both.......sigh?

But l suppose we will all still roast to death in 90 years, we will just freeze to death before then, unless we are in the wrong part of the world, them we might freeze before roasting? Although if we jetset around then we would be ok, although we might die of boredom at that point?

I have got it, we will all freeze and roast to death, in 90 years!

Yep, warm ocean currents, bought about by more evaporation in our atmospheres, will create unique conditions that will melt the arctic ice sheets while other parts gain some. But since it is warm ice, it will melt, when enough silly Russians, etc get trapped by larger than normal ice sheets, and all the penguins all flap their wings at the same time, (no wait that will cool the ice) but of course warm ice, has unique properties, blah, blah, blah.....!

Phew this is as bad as trying to keep up with Back to the Future 2, l'd better lie down!

So bottom line is, we will all roast to death, unless we are unlucky enough to freeze to death before then?

        Shane

Warm ice is possible, but probably not in nature?

The last three years here have seen loads of snow and low temperatures. This year it's barely been below freezing. It's currently 7c here which believe me, is as warm as toast for this time of year.

Larry did say he was being sarcastic though.

I am however making an attempt to create some. So far I've put an ice cube tray on the log burning stove and as yet all that's happened is the plastic melt.

I'll put less logs on next time and try again.

Have an attempt where you are Shane, it may just be a Northern/Southern hemisphere thing, or perhaps I can't make it here on account of the fact we can no longer play cricket!

I've been experimenting with warm ice for some time now!

The results were looking promising and it was keeping us warm and cozy!

            After months of testing........
            The house began to pitch
            the kitchen took a slitch
it landed on the wicked witch

OK back on topic, the results are in and it was a complete failure!

We barely escaped and concluded that if you're going to fool with mother nature and try to create warm ice, that you better consult with Claude!

              DO NOT CONSULT CLAUDE!

He only knows one way to create "warm ice" and it involves the ice cooler at the local Circle K and him drinking a Big Gulp-sized Irish coffee.

              You've been warned.

My friend who lives just over the hill from me is going through a similar situation.
I was talking to him last night and he said his chickens are laying ice cubes
He also has 5 dogs, three Samoyed huskies and two beagles. He said he can't get the huskies to come in or the beagles to go out.
He said the huskies are picking on the goats which look like statues.

The Huskies should love it. The biggest problem I have with the chickens is their water. I go out in the morning with gallons of steaming hot/warm water and melt the water in their bowls of water. It's refrozen again in a couple of hours.

Can you take a coffee can or milk can, put a brick or two in it, put it in the water, and safely start a fire? Maybe use some charcoal, if you have it?

The bricks will help hold some of the heat for longer as well as help the can sink.

I'm not going anywhere today! I am warm and I am so grateful for a roof over my head - and quite concerned for the stray animals and wildlife around here braving the outdoor elements - yeah, I know - I'm a huge softie when it comes to the neighbourhood creatures - I am very fond of them all - even the naughty squirrels!

no one should be outside for very long today - yikes!
        - once my son graduates from college and then university in a few years, I think I will be relocating to a warmer climate - but for now - I am putting up with yet another Canadian winter - which tend to be cyclical - this year just happens to be a real winter as opposed to what we have been spoiled with the last several years.

The current cold snap is only here for 2 days and by Friday, we will be back above zero
        yay!

Although if you put icecubes in the microwave and nuke them, then it might be possible!
