I've heard several horror stories about Sochi. I read that there were several stray dogs roaming the area that weren't necessarily causing problems, but the local officials perceived them as a "potential" problem. Their solution? They shot them!

I guess taking the time to round them up and relocate them, confine them, etc wouldn't work for them. Who knows? I do understand that packs of wild dogs can be dangerous, but these hadn't been bothering anyone. Was it necessary? I can't say. It just seemed pretty cold hearted to me.

I also heard that there's a serious shortage of pillows! How can you have more than 4 years to prepare for an event like the Olympics and not have basic necessities on hand?

Another thing that's been mentioned was the yellow water. Visitors and athletes were advised not to wash their face with it because of the possibility of chemical contamination. I hope they don't have a shortage of bottled water. Sheesh!

Finally, I heard that Vladimir Putin's girlfriend was going to light the Olympic flame. Word has it that she's a former athlete, but I don't recall what event she participated in. I didn't watch the opening ceremonies so I don't know if that happened or not.

I suppose it's too early to call these Olympics an epic failure, but it's definitely not too early to start pointing fingers and demanding accountability. I don't see these guys hosting an Olympics again for a very long time.

I recorded and will watch the opening ceremonies with the wife and kid to pass the time this weekend while it snows.

We do it all the time and love the pageantry.

Do you live in a cave? Winter Olympics

I enjoyed the Opening Pageantry thoroughly. In spite of all the fuss about not being ready - the athletes have nothing but praise for the way the events are laid out and the quality of the venues.

      Some amazing people competing -

Yep, the opening ceremony was pretty impressive, although in Australia, if you watch it on tv-Wi-Fi, (Ten) there is no fast forward, but l still managed to see most of it!

Mascots were pretty cool, pity about the Olympic ring issue, but with the exception of Greece, most opening ceremonies have had issues!
