I was watching a movie from 2002 featuring a young Kevin Hart called Paper Soldiers. A couple of times they are able to outrun cops.

Hey, it's a movie. Has any high speed chase driver ever escaped the police in real life these days?

      I watch Cops every night and I'm always amazed at the number of yahoo's that try to run.
      I used to do it years ago on my motorcycle if it was night and I was near my home. Most times they would be waiting for me at my house.

    Haha Cops is great. I think there was another show called Dumb Criminals or something like that which was funny. I remember one guy put a paper bag on his head so he wouldn't be recognized when he broke into the office of a business. But he forgot to cut eye holes so he kept crashing into the wall and furniture.

    A couple of acquaintances claim they have been able to do it by gunning the engine on the highway at night and then suddenly taking an exit as soon as they were away from view.

    Here cops drove in glorified taxis until recently so that part is plausible

    but I take these stories with a grain of salt as I always wondered why with optical scanners these days they simply don't drive to the suspect's home as ThomM says.

    The chases get good ratings in Southern California even though no one gets away. The TV stations go to them right away if they can. Plus it's an easy way to burn up a newscast.

    One guy was on a motorcycle with a helmet and long coat. He drove to a house, and went inside. The reporters were saying is this his house, what's the deal? Then an older guy walks out with his wife holding hands like they were going for a walk. The camera stays on the house as if the guy is still in there. A few minutes later one of the anchors says, "Hey, I think that guy with the woman was the perp." Sure enough, the motorcycle guy had shed his garb and looked completely different. He then grabbed his girlfriend and turned right around and walked out like he was a completely different guy. It worked for about 5 minutes and he almost got away. They found him shopping in a nearby store.
