Is this a variation of the "if you had to start your 'im journey' over with no money...what would you do?" Will the spammers show up?

I'm in an alternate reality - and I have clothes? Who would have thunk it - and why would I want to come back here anyway?

I don't want to do it unless I can be invisible. That's not negotiable.

At first I was going to just answer "I'd die" and leave it at that. However...

If I'm dropped "right where I live now" and "my family doesn't know me," then I'd guess my wife would call the cops, I'd be charged with trespassing at the very least, and since I couldn't prove who I was, I'd be spending quite a bit of time behind bars.

That would take care of the food/water/shelter thing while I figured out what to do next, which would take more time than I'm willing to spend on thinking about it right now.

It all depends! Tere ARE some ideas I had that OTHERS made money off of, because of my inaction. It is possible that I could do the same there. I guess I would first have to find out how to blend in though.

I would go to the authorities and claim amnesia and get some welfare while they fruitlessly try to find out who I was. Based on that I would go from there, eventually they would give me some id cards and I could get a job and buy a cheap laptop, get online and see if a parallel Claude Whitacre exists, If so I would buy his alternative world book, One Call Bank Robbery and masterfully and effortlessly get some money without being implicated or leaving a trail.

I would be pretty well off that way

Alternatively and more easily I would have loads of unheard, never written tunes in my head and become successful as a songwriter. Any lyrics I cant remember I could make some up being fairly talented like that. I could also write stories remembering some from my other life that have never been told. Could do some great alternative earth history ones too only would be real events (Harry Turtledove does well writing them)

Huge possibilities here for profit. Would miss my family though having no access to them!

Nope sorry, admit I failed to pay attention. However, I don't want everything to be the same! Will just hop to a different one if that's the case!... President Whitacre.

But if you keep insisting the limitation would still opt for the amnesia thing to establish an identity., go from there!

My musing fantasy is that my parents from 1960 (as they were then) suddenly appear in the back of my 2012 (hybrid) Prius A. I will be driving and smoking my futuristic E-cig refillable cig tank. With this cars futuristic interior and design my dad would be fascinated and my mother, well, would just like to see her again.

Would like to tell them who I was, take them to my home and show them all the electronc gadgets like the net and wide-screen large tv's etc. Let them know how the world turned out. But just for a few days, then they would go back to 1960 and not remember a thing in case it disturbs the timeline.

I do what any sane universe changer would do with $20...buy a pizza.

Next, I'd put some dog poo in a paper bag, light in on fire, put it on Claude's porch, ring the doorbell and run. Then I'd watch from behind a bush as Claude stomped out the fire, laughing uncontrollably knowing Claude will never know who did it because I'm not from this universe.

If I just knew I was stuck here ... and I knew everything was the same.

My perverse curiosity would kick in. Some one had to take my place.
I would track down that person and play peeping tom.

If he looks just like me ... the story might take a interesting twist.

If he doesn't and nobody knows who I am, that means no responsibilities.

Time to grab a back pack and go hike across the world. No time like the
present to go enjoy all those wonders I keep putting off because life
and responsibilities keep getting in the way.

Ken; In this scenario, you would know you can't get back. You would know what happened. You may know how you wound up here. Nobody took your place.

Yes, you retain all your memories. And you know that everyone you ever met wouldn't know you. If you had kids, they weren't born. If you are married, they married someone else. Think of this as real. Ian; You can't travel through time. Nothing is different except you weren't born. You cannot hop to different dimensions or universes.

It's as though you appeared and everyone on the planet was hypnotized to believe that you never existed.

guys; What would you do? how would you survive? You have to eat, find a place to stay....

The truth is, after awhile, you'd just get used to it, and be like everyone else.....Maybe even try to get together with the spouse that isn't yours anymore (And has no idea who you are)

My question originally was more of a survival question, not a "I would travel to other dimensions" question. You keep reminding me of things I left out that change the picture dramatically.

There have been cases of amnesia in this dimension, so that avenue occurred to me as well. There'd be local news on a slow news about this odd guy who doesn't have any documents of who he is and can't explain anything about his existence (without being sent to a mental hospital). People would probably emerge saying they know me, then I'd start networking and learning all about myself according to how other people with records of their existence are perceiving it, select the most promising prospect, and adjust accordingly.

You do not have amnesia. You know who you are. Nobody else does. And everything you've done in your life has been erased. You know you are in another universe. You know that nobody knows you (I have no idea how any of this would happen).

You cannot network to find people who know you...because nobody knows you. On this Earth, you were never born.

Ok, first feign amnesia to get some ID, get a job, earn enough to travel to my home country. (UK) Suddenly my memory returns

There I would knock on the doors of Father and sister. Claim to be a long lost son and brother. Perhaps impress them with some general anecdotes about their jobs and life, personality that my not being around would have been unlikely to have affected. Describe my deceased mother, perhaps tell them the truth, whatever it takes.

Whatever it takes to get them to agree to a genetic test. Wow, genetically he is your father. The press get to hear, curious researchers come forward. How can this be.

I can do interviews for national newspapers and magazines, tv and radio. lend myself for research. For a big fat fee of course. Have a few months of fame! earn some money.

The only way to make the best of essentially what is a bad situation!

So I was asking myself...why wouldn't this zombie army turn on you? What incredible defense do you have that would keep you safe from their undead grasp?

What is it about you that makes you different from all the people that the zombies would devour? And then it occurred to me...

I know according to M-Theory, such universes may exist. But still we have the conservation of mass and energy theory to deal with. To offset the mass, a lot of energy would have to be transferred to this universe.

Is there any way to send all of our problem child, career criminals over there, and the icing on the cake is we solve some of our energy crisis?

What about sending our career politicians over there too? They should do pretty good over there, as no one believes what they say in this universe.

Why can't we turn this hypothetical scenario into reality? Someone get Stephen Hawking on the phone.

Be careful what you ask for. Many of our problem children and career criminals actually play major roles in society, culture, the arts, and technological advancement, eg organized crime groups such as Gameloft.

David; The problem is that I just read a report on "Dumpster theory" where all the unwanted from all the other universes were dumped here...eons ago.

Kurt; That's just silly. Perpendicular universes are something that people used to believe in, before there was science.

I'm going to hang a left.

You know all those semi-mythological creatures like Bigfoot, Mothman, ETs,etc.
It occurred to me that they cross back and forth between dimensions.
That explains why they are so elusive.

As for me....
I am most assuredly from another dimension as I don't fit in this one. :p
