Domain Flipping, does it really work?

I'm attempting my first domain flip. I've heard of people's success but I want to know other people's opinions on it?

I decided I'd go for it and try a domain, I put it up for auction on godaddy but it seems like it will take forever. 90 day auction, and almost no traffic because there are so many domains.

I'm flipping the domain born2gamble, any suggestions or criticism?

    Some folks claim that it does and sold WSOs on it. I did sell a domain for $1500. As a consistent source of income, I don't know. I haven't yet made a concerted ongoing effort at it.

      What did you use to sell the domain? Did you bring traffic to the sale or just let time pass?

        On that sale, I made no effort whatsoever. I didn't even have the domain up for sale. Someone just wanted it really badly and made me the offer right of the bat. Kind of bizarre, really.

        I am presently giving it a go with "vanity" domains to appeal to business owners in specific cities. It is too early to say if it'll work, but I hope it does, LOL. I plunked down $100 on two domains alone.

            "Vanity domain" is a similar concept as vanity plates. For businesses it would probably be something related to the business and its location.

                They're not mutually exclusive and can often overlap, but not synonymous. The main difference is that it appeals to a buyers vanity and probably is advantageous to the business, but is not necessarily limited to a region, eg something with "best" in it such as BestAstronomy.com (which coincidentally is available and would be a good site to sell telescopes, astronomy news, and suchlike)

    I'm getting ready to either start flipping local sites that I rank in Google SERPs (before the sale), or rent those local ranked pages out to small business owners. There won't be any middle man (ex: flippa) regardless which direction I go.

    I've only sold one domain by itself (for $500.00) to someone that contacted me out of nowhere, but I've sold several websites with similar domains as bonuses.

    I've also had another person contact me out of nowhere and made me a nice offer on a website, but they made it plain that they were only interested in the domain.

    The best person that I know of for domain flipping advice is Gene Pimental. He helped me through that first flip. I had no idea about Escrow.com and was afraid of getting ripped off. I contacted him and he told me exactly what to do. Do a search for him and you'll likely find answers to a lot of your questions.
