AC/DC about to "pull the plug"?

Rumours are circulating that one of the world's biggest concert attractions are about to call it quits after 40 years.

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/...415-36oc1.html

They've had quite a journey, starting off playing in dingy little pubs and clubs in Australia, through the death of singer Bon Scott, to being able to fill arenas around the globe.

Not much more I can add to that other than to let the music do the talking:

Edit: Bugger. I can't get the video to embed. Enjoy anyway.

One of my favorite bands. Started listening to them in 1978 and went to my first show in 2008.

Lots of drunken teenage nights listening to that band

Here's one of my favorites from them:

    Hmm.

Apparently rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young recently suffered a stroke which left him with a blood clot in his brain which is the reason behind the decision to retire.

Not sure if this is true or not, but if it is, I hope he has a full recovery and is able to play and perform again.

They are in their 60's - at some point the old body starts to give out.

When you consider how many flash in the pan musicians there are - it's great to see several rock groups who just keep going and pulling in the crowds for decades.

AC/DC is probably one of the most simple Bands with the most simple and easiest tunes to play coming from a musician standpoint.

But sometimes simple is better. And those guys could always put down a heavy laden back beat with a catchy riff.

One of my very favs of all time

Writing simple to play tunes didn't stop the Beatles becoming moderately successful.

I took up the drums when I was 33. I played along to these guys for precisely that reason. Easy peasy...

I saw them in concert in 1985 - Saginaw, MI. They opened for Ted Nuggent. That was a wild show. Ted was okay on "vinyl" - but he threw a hell of a show. He came on swinging on a rope in a caveman outfit just after AC/DC cannons went off in "Those About to Rock". One of the better concerts I've seen.

I've only seen them twice, in '77 and '81.

The first was the last Australian show that Bon Scott played with them before they left for England. The second was the first Australian show with "new boy" Brian Johnson on the "Back In Black" tour.

Before they played "Long Way to The Top" Johnson gave a very heartfelt speech to Bon's mother who was in the audience. It got a huge response from the crowd.

      Aah, memories.

Since it's been a few months, I figured I would update this thread with some news.

Yes, Malcolm Young is in the hospital with an unspecified health issue, but like when Bon Scott died, AC/DC simply kept rolling with a replacement. In this case, Malcolm Young's nephew Stevie took over, and they were able to do the new album with him.

I have a feeling AC/DC is going to now turn into a family dynasty.

I was at the Money Talk AC/DC concert, I think that was around 1989/90, at the Deer Creek amphitheater North of Indianapolis. I had center stage box seats & still have some of the AC/DC money that fell from the roof. The amps were so loud & had so much bass my chest hurt for about 2 days after the concert.
