This sort of thing is building in Europe as well. It wont be long until greedy governments start taxing it.....all for our benefit of course.

I was a heavy, heavy smoker and once I tried an ecig, I never went back to tobacco. I wish governments could just stop sticking their snouts in all aspects of our business.

Same here, now approaching a year without smoking thanks to my ecig. Tried patches, gums, nasal sprays and anything else the doc gave me to quit - none of it worked until I got the ecig.

I do support regulation though, there's enough shady products on the market and some kind of quality control is needed.

Same here. Nothing worked for me. I see the ecig as a miracle cure to be honest. It seems that up to now, nobody is sure whether they are harmful in some way. But as I now breathe easier, feel stronger and fitter, and am a hell of a lot better off financially, they're certainly less harmful to me than tobacco.

As you said, they do need some form of regulation, or you could end up with some shady companies putting all kinds of crap in the fluids. But I hope they regulate the products for our benefit rather than their own.

Talking of fluids, I live in a place called Grasse, in France and it's known as the perfume capital of the world. It seems that nearly all the perfume manufacturers here make the liquids and are having trouble keeping up with demand.

It's big business these days.

I'm not a smoker, but think ecigs are a much better option than smoking real cigs. However, ecigs are not totally safe I'm led to believe? Something regarding liquid nicotine being poisonous. Apparently, nicotine extracted from tobacco leaves is ok, but in liquid form its poisonous.

They became popular here when smoking inside any building was stopped and cigarettes increased in price to $10 for a pack of 20. I remember they could once be used on planes and in buildings. Not now though, they are banned everywhere too.

Regulation is a good idea. There are so many fakes and exploding e-cigs that I have never tried them. Of course, the price will likely increase because of 'regulations' and then they will be taxed.

I was a heavy tobacco smoker and now use ecigs. Nicotine does not wreck your lungs. Smoke with all those chemicals used in cigarette processing does. Ecigs don't have any smoke. It's vapor. If vapor were harmful, I doubt that pediatricians would advise vaporizers to run when children are sick with a cold or flu.

These are infinitely safer than real cigarettes. After smoking ecigs for awhile, smoking a cigarette feels like breathing really dirty air into your lungs.

I'm not asthmatic and undoubtedly, asthmatics should not smoke ecigs or real cigarettes, but if I were asthmatic, and insisted on smoking, I'd take my chances with the 3-4 ingredients in ejuice over real cigarettes any day.

There are approximately 600 ingredients in cigarettes. When burned, they create more than 7,000 chemicals. At least 69 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer, and many are poisonous.

Many of these chemicals are also found in consumer products, but these products have warning labels. While the public is warned about the danger of the poisons in these products, there is no such warning for the toxins in tobacco smoke.

Here are a few of the chemicals in tobacco smoke, and other places they are found:

Acetone – found in nail polish remover
Acetic Acid – an ingredient in hair dye
Ammonia – a common household cleaner
Arsenic – used in rat poison
Benzene – found in rubber cement
Butane – used in lighter fluid
Cadmium – active component in battery acid
Carbon Monoxide – released in car exhaust fumes
Formaldehyde – embalming fluid
Hexamine – found in barbecue lighter fluid

With e-cigs you are not adding fluid to your lungs. What you inhale is like the fog from a fog machine on a dance floor or on Halloween. It's not a wet steam. They have two ingredients plus flavoring - cigs have about 4000 in the smoke.

There are "warnings" online but if you trace them back you'll find many originate from anti-smoking groups (they don't want you to inhale anything), tobacco companies (though they are now buying up and launching their own e-cig brands) and big pharma (big profit in treating smoking related diseases).

Currently there's a new push for "we need to see if these are dangerous" - and I'll bet those 'concerns' are related to pols noticing "we don't have a big tax on these e-cigs yet".

You can get e-liquids that have no water in them. Distilled water is only used as a thinner, usually if the manufacturer is using a vegetable glycerin base. Then only to thin out the viscosity of the glycerin. If the base is Propylene Glycol it isn't needed.

In some cases, especially when vegetable glycerin (VG) is the primary base being used, distilled
water is added as a diluent to reduce the viscosity of the e-liquid mixture. This helps prevent build up and ensures smooth and trouble-free e-cig operation.

I'm not saying you should try one, just that there are e-liquids that I think would be safer for you then others.
I enjoy the hell out of mine. Whats really nice is taking a hit or two while doing something and being able to just put it in your pocket. No wasting cigs. burning up in the ashtray, no burning your fingers, and no ashes falling into whatever you're doing.

It's a blessing and a curse. The eCig market has been growing rapidly over the last 5 years, but like mentioned above there are a lot of junk products on the market, and the juice that you put into the eCigs is what really needs to be regulated.

Right now there are no methods being implemented to determine the final result's nicotine levels, and poor quality controls on the batteries being produced / "hot rigging" devices is what caused the few explosions that have happened.

As far as wrecking your lungs, you've gotta educate yourself, no offense intended. It seems you're going off of what someone told you and not really based around facts. Fog machines and asthma inhalers have been around for years, and don't wreck your lungs. eCigs use the same chemicals.

Having eCigs regulated isn't necessarily a bad thing. The prices are going to go up, so bigger tobacco companies can get involved and pay more tax dollars, but it's also going to keep people safer by making companies adhere to guidelines regarding their juice and battery production.

Remember, though. Electronic cigarettes can be completely manufactured at home, and the juice can be produced on your own, so it can never be completely regulated.

If you're worried about it, pick up a bunch of mechanical devices, and a few liters of nicotine to throw in the freezer, and continue using to your heart's content.

This regulation has been coming for a long time. The pressure to stop or limit e-cig sales began when they were first sold in the US about 8 years ago....and those efforts were from big tobacco and big pharma. Now tobacco companies own some of the e-cig brands:p

In order to tax e-cigs like they do alcohol and tobacco....e-cigs have to be regulated. That's the bottom line. Something has to replace the taxes lost from declining tobacco sales....

One of the reasons that I stay away from those pre-made brands like Blu, etc. I buy from an independent entrepreneur and buy the parts and buy in bulk. I get a better ecigarette with longer lasting batteries and life. After years of smoking the harmful product that tobacco companies put out in the form of real cigarettes, I don't trust them to make a safe ecigarette product.

Seems like a lot of trouble to interfere in free market when the govt can
just raise gas by another $3/gal, state taxes by 25%, federal taxes
by 50%. There are many ways the govt can screw the hard working
tax payer out of their hard earn $$ just because they want to
find an alternative; We have been getting screwed for years; besides they would never be able to raise the tax enough to compensate unless the goal of the govt is of people to go back to smoking again...

As it's so cheap to produce ecig liquids maybe it's worth jumping on the bandwagon. Create a company called something like "Funky Vaping" and give all the different flavours names such as:

Al Cappuccino
Mint Eastwood
Elton Pomme
Chock Norris
Toffee Annan
Almond Schwarzenegger
Melon Mandella
Pear Grills
Grape Kelly
etc, etc, etc

Could be a winner.....then again.......

I too used e-cigs to quit a heavy chain smoking habit - however I needed the patch max dose to get started - took a year of going from heavy to light smoker doing the patch step 1,2,3 over and over - but I just had to have at least 1 cigarette which always turned into 3 cigarettes.

Then I tried e-cig which had not worked for me except to take 'the edge' off from the fiendish tendencies - but with the patch it did the trick! Because I covered heavy nicotine with heavy HABIT/RITUAL.

I have not had a cigarette in 5 months - AND the best part now is that I have used an e-cig to do their 3 step from high to low to zero - and I have not had ANY NICOTINE for 3 weeks so far - yay!

HOWEVER - e-cigs with nicotine are still nicotine - a horrible, addictive DRUG and an ACID (nicotinic acid). As such they should not be pimped to kids or allowed for kids - it should be the same as cigarettes where they have to be 18 or 21 (I forget which)

Of course you are going to have your abusers who will ruin everything for everyone. I remember when they took flavored cigarettes off the market because it was 'pandering' to kids - ( I thought this was draconian and couldn't believe it).

So now of course the e-cigs are flavored - and as I said an ADDICTIVE substance - nicotine. There are also models that have allowed accidental burning and poisoning - (stick to the ones that look like cigs with the changing filters).

So unfortunately 'when you work with turkeys it is impossible to fly like eagles' - we have idiots among us and as such we need regulations to control their behavior.

Patricia...There is quit a bit of Libertarian in me. I don't need the gov't to protect me from myself. If I want to 'kill' myself, that is my business. I don't believe that ecigs are a 'gateway drug'. If the kids want to smoke, they want the REAL thing.

I smoked for 45 YEARS! I always KNEW I was not addicted to the nicotine, I was addicted to the menthol. The patch didn't work for me. After putting a cigarette to my mouth 100 times/day for 45 years. I was well aware of muscle memory, On 4/15/2014 I washed out my (crystal) ashtray. I had my local convenience store order me NO NICOTINE MENTHOL ecigs and have never smoked again... I KNEW what I needed and I was right. A few times during the day I have a CRAVING to inhale...and that's it. I imagine in a few weeks that won't even be necessary. Even I am amazed. I was a GREAT smoker...you could tell by my filters that I knew how to drag.

I'm asthmatic and that nicotine keeps my lungs from spasming. A lot of asthmatics smoke. Ecigs aren't all that great for asthmatics either. We don't want vapor in our lungs. We want dry air. That's why asthmatics move to the west - dry air. I'd rather smoke than put water in my lungs. Water in the lungs is a great way to grow bacteria and virus, too. A lot of people that die form flu actually die from pneumonia complications. What puts water in your lungs when you have the flu? Aspirin. They think now that's what killed so many during the "Spanish Lady" back in 1918 or around there.

I use a Tarblock filter on my cigs when I smoke to take that crap out of them. I might quit someday, but I won't be smoking water when I do.

As far as gov - they're not going to lighten up until they give themselves the right to walk right into your home unnanounced and rifle through your cupboards and take what they don't want you to have and charge you for their time.

Water in the lungs be damned. Vaporizers should not be used by those with asthma. That's a given, but the first thing a pediatrician prescribes for children with a bad cold, flu or bronchitis who do not have asthma is a vaporizer in their room. I watched my mother die of lung cancer and it was tobacco and all the chemicals added to it by the tobacco companies that killed her, and it's not pretty.

Congrats to all in this thread who have found a way forward to quit that filthy habit with electronic cigarettes. For the first time in a long time, I can breathe easier and smell things (whether that's a good thing or a stinky thing ... lol).

I have a lot of the flavors like chocolate, vanilla, capuccino, cherry, coke, etc. but I still seem to prefer the tobacco flavored one. I'll go with whatever because this is so much better than smoking tobacco.

lol... I love those names. There's one of the entrepreneur companies called madvapes that mixes up crazy flavors. I like funkyvapes or funkyvaping and think the names are a great idea.

Right about that ... I was in my early teens when I started smoking. Another anti-ecig propaganda talking point has been ... but nicotine is poisonous and children might drink the vial of liquid. Duh. Household bleach and cleaners are poisonous and children can drink them. Parents lock away harmful substances and teach their children what to drink and not drink.

Ive been smoke free for about 6 months now and saved a lot of money from "vaping" and Ecigs. Right now most of the gear is pretty cheap but I imagine if its regulated well see the prices go up.

To be honest I never thought it would be so easy to stop smoking until I bought one of these E-cigs... so im grateful for them. The only downside is I did pick up some about 5 lbs, even though im still getting nicotine... maybe because food tastes better now?

You know they always say people gain weight when they quit and I figured it is because you start to crave things and eat more -

... but what I have found is that nicotine really does speed up your metabolism - and I didn't eat more at all but started to gain weight - as a result of my metabolism going slower. So I bought some Kelp capsules - and it has Iodine which speeds up your metabolism - (without getting an overdose of sodium as you would from iodized salt)...

Besides it is a 'twofer' because here in California we are receiving the radioactive fallout from the Japanese Tsunami - for some reason particularly starting at the end of April - Iodine helps protect your thyroid from radiation - (thyroid is one thing that regulates your metabolism).

Please God I don't want to start glowing green - it's not my color.

Cigs definitely alter metabolism. I have to keep my smoking in check or I lose weight. I have a hard enough time keeping weight on.

Suzanne - I use vapor now and again, but I put plenty of salt in the water. Salt water will kill microbes and draw out infection. I've used vaporizers to spread menthol or ecualyptus around the house to make it smell fresher and kill microbes, too. I can't imagine a doctor suggesting just plain water vapor for flu though. That actually alarms me.

One of the things that I've always noticed is that sea air with all that salt in it seems to make people feel better. I even enjoy the moisture in sea air and I attribute that to the salt and minerals in it.

Glad to see there is good support for e-cigs, smoked all my life and 2 years ago, tried one and bang, no more cigs. The few times I ran out of juice for them I had a pack of cigs and smoked one for the nicotine. Yuk, like smoking a bonfire in comparison. (except they are too big and dangerous)

The only thing I missed for the first 2 weeks was the ritual of lighting up, soon got over that.

Even with tax they will still be dirt cheap compared with cigs.

I currently get my fluid from a wholesale site that sells it in bulk. Much cheaper than tobacco stores that sell them.

Stay away from the vegetable based juice though, they clog up the cartomizers. Propylene Glycol is the best.

Many people use vaporizers and humidifiers with plain water. You do have to keep your vaporizers clean, but adding humidity to the air loosens up congestion in the lungs and sinuses for respiratory illnesses. I never used one for one daughter who had asthma though. I had bronchitis when I was a kid frequently and had a vaporizer in my room a lot (plain water). I always felt better also when I took a hot, steamy shower. The steam loosened up all the congestion in my chest and I could then cough it up.

Humidifiers, which are a larger, more complex version of a vaporizer are used a lot in winter when the air becomes overly dry from heating. We have a simple pot on the top of our wood stove to dispense moisture into the air during winter. It makes the air more comfortable and out skin doesn't dry out the way it does without it.

Yeah, I knew that smoking them in public places wouldn't wash. There's really no reason for the rules, but I doubt that there's any place around that prohibited cigarettes that allows ecigarettes, at least no place I know of.

That's the first time I've heard of a tax attack on alcohol. They should have stayed with the state stores.

They actually have e-cigars. The thing about ecigs is there are many different kinds. I was a heavy smoker, so I demand an ecig capable of producing a lot of vapor and I want long battery life. I went with one called Ego-C Twist. It looks like drug paraphernalia.

ha ha. Then I have a civilized looking one that looks more like a real cigarette for town so I don't get arrested in public. In this small town, I'd never convince one of the Good Ole Boy Sheriffs that I was smoking an electronic cigarette :p

Johnny Depp and some other celebrities have been photographed smoking ecigs and trust me ... he looks very cool. He uses a black one, but they also come in stainless, white, colors, and cigarette clone types. Haven't checked out what makes the e-cigar different, but I'm sure they have some that are cool looking.

OOOOO, thanks Suzanne! I had no idea they made ecigars! Now I can still be all cool, scare my neighbors (they all think I'm the female version of Clint!), and get healthier! EEK!
I gave up cigarettes a long time ago. I really don't smoke my little cigars very much, but I can't seem to convince myself to be without them. I'm super stupid about having one of them instead of eating when I'm hungry. Eating makes me tired, lazy and I just have too much to do in a day. I know better, that's why I included the word "stupid!"

I know the type of device you were speaking of. Some friends of ours have something that looks like it came from a paraphernalia shop. They even have ropes that attach around their necks! I had no idea what they were until they told me! The pipes are actually quite pretty but I can see how they could be mistaken for something else!

The alcohol tax was the voter's fault. They didn't read the rest of the thing, and all they saw was "oh!, we get to buy booze anywhere now!" I love a good Bailey's and coffee on cold days, now.. ha!.. I'd have to take out a second mortgage to buy a bottle!

This goes for smokes and alcohol, but if you get caught going from Spokane into Idaho to buy either, you will get a huge fine. Many vendors here bought their smokes in Idaho and sold them here. It's almost twice the price for a pack of smokes here as it is in Idaho.

I know lots of people who have quit smoking thanks to ecigs, but I'm all for regulation and even taxing them similarly to alcohol or cigarettes.

Regulation because there are some REALLY SHADY people in the business putting who knows what in the fluids, and making ecigs that really will put bad stuff in your lungs. Unless you do your research before you get an ecig you could get one of those nasty things. Regulations will make those guys go away or clean up their act.

Taxing them? It just goes hand in hand with any luxury item. It should be taxed and the money hopefully go to our schools, or infrastructure.

The figures along with the reality that knock-off vodka and other spirits are often laced with paint thinner, household/industrial chemicals and all manner of other poisons far from paints a pretty picture. All worsened by punitive domestic tax regimes, including protectionist excise duties, levied by the people's loving, caring government.

My first concern when I tried ecigs was whether I would get that tangible hit in the lungs (like when you enjoy a really good ciggy after a meal or something) and I also wanted it to look similar to a cigarette.

So I went with one called eroll made by joyetech. You get two ecigs and a charging case. The case looks a bit like an iphone in some ways, giving it a slick look. The good thing with this is that when you're using one, you can charge the spare, and the case holds a charge for about a day

After one puff I was staggered how good it felt and after a couple of puffs, I loved it. In fact as far as I was concerned it was better than tobacco. If anyone is thinking of having a go at giving up smoking, I would heartily suggest giving ecigs a go. You'll definately be better off financially, and you'll certainly feel healthier.

As for taxation, I feel the authorities should let this one run free for a while. There would be advantages to them such as, healthier people, who are less of a strain on healthcare, who will probably take less sickies from work, making them possibly more productive etc etc

How did you get that out of this conversation? The cigarette companies pump tons of carcinogenic chemicals into the cigarette production process, all of which, combined with the tar make a deadly product. The people here who have tried them have not had any blow up in their face and report improved health. I wouldn't go back for any reason.

I tried out a couple e-cigs a few days ago and plan on making the switch this week.
Currently I'm a heavy smoker (2 packs a day) and it's flat out killing my lungs.
A couple weeks ago I woke up hacking so hard I either ruptured something or bruised something in my throat and it felt like I was coughing up barbed wire when I coughed.
I roll my own cigs and have it down to around $1.25 a pack so I will have to cut down when I switch to e-cigs to keep the cost in line.
I did notice though that after two days with the e-cigs I felt better (lung wise) and had way more energy. I was even starting to smell better (which made me realize how much my house stinks from all that smoking).
I'm thinking of getting one of those starter kits with the two batteries and chargers and try a few different flavors and both pre-filled and fill yourself cartridges.
Right now I'm looking at the Halo G-6 starter kit as they seem to have a good product and I can get the e-liquid and pre-filled cartridges at my local smoke shop. If anyone can suggest a different brand, I'll look into them also.

Thom ... I was a heavy cigarette smoker so I wanted a heavy duty ecig. I chose this one eGo-C Twist w/ CE5 Ultimate Starter Kit (no affiliation).

It is most like the experience of a cigarette that I could find, but it's for home as it looks more like drug paraphernalia than a cool ecig. I bought a civilized one for downtown/public.

It was weird. My brother and I both got what should have been an ordinary cold. It was anything but. For almost two weeks, we both sounded like we were coughing up a lung. Thought our ribs were going to break from such heavy, constant coughing. It was miserable. During that time, neither of us were able to smoke a cigarette.

Afterwards, my brother just stayed off cigarettes (although he smokes something else in moderation). I stayed off for a few more weeks and then went back. I hated myself for going back and that's when I decided to try the ecigs. I'd tried them once before, but the one I got did not produce a lot of vapor and the batteries constantly wore out.

That's when I tried this one and it's a keeper. My lungs feel so much better now. I don't have a cough anymore, I can smell things I haven't smelled for a long time. At first a lot of stuff tasted different. I was bummed because coffee didn't taste as good, but I kept drinking it and it has returned to normal now. I don't want anything to mess with my coffee habit.

Ego-C is a good brand for me. Joyetech is another brand I've used. Just go for something that has a longer battery life, as the batteries will get expensive if you burn through them fast.

I'm not worried about what it looks like I'm smoking (or vaping)/ As you may have noticed from many of my posts I'm not shy about my Cannabis use

That kit is a little pricier then what I'm looking at, but looks like it would be a good investment if I stick with the e-cigs.
One thing I have to take into consideration is I like to hold a cig in my hand and mouth. SO I'm thinking something more like a real cig for day time use and something like the e-Go for when I'm relaxing at night.

I'm not really thinking about quiting but I can see where e-cigs could help with that. You can get different levels of nicotine going from real high to none at all.
One problem I have is I enjoy smoking. So even after I cut down the nicotine level I can still smoke if I want to.

I'm happy with smoking a much cleaner product than cigarettes right now. I really enjoyed smoking also and never gave quitting a moment's thought until the "lung incident." It's a much tougher habit to quit than anything else that I know of (at least for me).

I can relate to that. In my early twenties I was a Meth addict. Well to be honest, I made meth addicts look like casual users. One time when I did a bunch I felt no rush or anything but I heard a voice . It said if I did that one more time I would die. It was 10 years before I'd even drink a cup of coffee

It's been almost 40 years since that day and I still won't do any stimulate stronger then coffee.
For a time I drank a qt. of J.D. every night. One day I woke up and decided I was tired of feeling like crap all the time and stopped drinking.
That was 25 years ago and all I do now is drink a little wine maybe a couple times a year.
That's why quitting nicotine frosts my butt so much. It's the only substance I can't seem to just walk away from.

I'm not worried about what it looks like I'm smoking (or vaping)/ As you may have noticed from many of my posts I'm not shy about my Cannabis use

That kit is a little pricier then what I'm looking at, but looks like it would be a good investment if I stick with the e-cigs.
One thing I have to take into consideration is I like to hold a cig in my hand and mouth. SO I'm thinking something more like a real cig for day time use and something like the e-Go for when I'm relaxing at night.

Yeah, this one definitely wouldn't be easy to just hang from your mouth. lol. But one thing about the price of this one is that you pay more up front but much less on the re-orders. I'm still on the kit parts from the first order. I ordered one more battery just in case, but haven't had to use it. Longest battery life of any I've tried so far.

I have a feeling that the big national brands like blu will absolutely rob you on parts wearing out fast, especially the ones being sold by tobacco companies. They gotta make up for the lost cigarette sales.

@Kurt ... you're right about sense of smell coming back not always being a good thing!

Thom did you get the Halo G6? I've read lots of good reviews about it.

Yep that's the one I have.
So far (at least for me) I found that the short automatic batteries seem to be the most durable. I also tried the longer batteries both auto and manual and the manual one quit working after a couple months and the auto one though still working isn't working as well as my short ones.
As for their e-liquids I like (tobacco flavored) Tribeca and Freedom Juice. Two other flavors they have I like are Malibu and Southern Classic. But naturally everyone has different tastes.
I'm also using their mini tanks all the time instead of the cartomizers.
I still smoke regular cigs also, but not nearly as much as I did before I started vaping.

In a couple of weeks it will be my 10th anniversary since I quit smoking. I was smoking 3 1/2 packs a day before I quit.

I was amazed at how quickly my sense of smell improved. It seemed like it was a day or two after I quit...that's when I realized being able to smell better wasn't always a good thing.

Just saw this new study ... about time someone did a real study on ecigs

BBC News - E-cigarettes 'help smokers to quit'

Smokers who use e-cigarettes to quit are more likely to succeed than those who use willpower alone or buy nicotine replacement therapies, such as patches or gum, a study suggests.

The survey of nearly 6,000 smokers found a fifth had quit with the aid of e-cigarettes.

That was 60% higher than those who did not use the devices, the study said.

The University College London team said they were "cautiously positive" about the role e-cigarettes could play.

E-cigarette use has shot up in recent years.

Action on Smoking and Health estimate there are more than 2m people using them - triple the number from two years ago.

Half of smokers have tried them compared to 8% in 2010.

Users experience the sensation of smoking by inhaling a vapour which contains a concentration of nicotine.

But they remain controversial. The Welsh government wants to restrict their use in public places, because of fears they normalise smoking.
'Widespread appeal'

However, lead researcher Prof Robert West, one of the UK's leading experts in this field, said: "E-cigarettes could substantially improve public health because of their widespread appeal and the huge health gains associated with stopping smoking."

I just got my starter kit Friday. I'm still smoking cigs, but so far my cig consumption has been cut in half and going down daily.
When you think about it many of the quit smoking products out there just take away the tobacco and deliver nicotine, like the patch.
So if something like the patch can help a person quit, then why not an e-cig to do the same?

Great! I didn't stop the cigarettes completely until more recently either, but just was able to replace the habit more and more with the ecigs over a bit of time.

The thing is, there has been so much negative press without any real studies being conducted until now. Just a bunch of crap that is unsubstantiated in the news about them and people/establishments banning them all over the place just because ....

Ecig sellers were not allowed to make any claims that they may help you to quit smoking, even though there is plenty of anecdotal evidence that they do. The one thing that ecigs have over patches and gum is you don't need to deal with the habit of actually smoking something, which makes it much tougher to quit smoking. When I've tried in the past, it was the habit of actually smoking, what you do with your hands and mouth, that was constantly bugging me.

So, you're still smoking something, but that something is so much less damaging than cigarettes. I can feel the difference in breathing, and it's significant.

I didn't read every word of every post, so please forgive me if this was already mentioned above, but here in the UK, the big tobacco companies are gradually buying up the e-cigarette manufacturers. Possibly they see them as a new way to get young people addicted to nicotine? And that might perhaps be a justification for their sales being regulated??

The other habits are something I also have a problem with. Like having a smoke with my coffee or lighting up before I go do something.
Now I keep my cigs in a drawer and my e-cig in plain sight and that helps. I grab the e-cig, take a couple hits and put it in my pocket. Even now while typing I grabbed the e-cig instead of a smoke like I normally do.
Two things I noticed on all the e-cig sites where first a disclaimer saying they are not for quitting smoking and second almost all the reviews where from people who used them to quit smoking

The flavors I have are OK, but I think when I find one I really like the regular cigs will disappear.
Also I going to order a couple smaller cig size batteries for during the day and a couple mini-tanks for at night watching TV.
With the smaller battery I should be able to keep the e-cig in my mouth when I'm doing something like I do with a cig now, but without the smoke getting in my eyes.
I smoke pretty heavy at night watching TV so the bigger batteries and tanks will be perfect for that.

That's what I did. Put my cigarettes in a drawer in another room, hide all the ashtrays ... lol. Make it harder to smoke one of them than the ecigs and when I had an urge for the real thing, smoke the ecig like crazy and the urge often went away.

Yeah, they're required to put that disclaimer on there, even though so many people have said that they quit real cigarettes when they started using the ecigs.

They're smart enough to know that they won't be able to advertise in a way that is deliberately appealing to young people (under the age of whatever the age is for cigarettes ... 18?), so ads for the yummy flavors will be watched by regulators.

I haven't smoked a national brand in years. In fact for the last few years I've been buying the tubes and a "pipe" tobacco and rolling my own.
I think many of the e-cig companies (at least those in the U.S.) are self-regulating themselves to try and prevent getting shut down or over regulated by the govt.
I know the company I buy my liquid from doesn't really have any flavors that would appeal to kids. They also claim that all their ingredients are FDA approved as food grade (not that I put much stock in what the FDA says).

You know big tobacco is behind this crap! E Cigs are becoming a muti-billion dollar a year industry! helping millions quit smoking! I quit smoking cigarettes after a 30 year Marlboro Reds habit. Almost a year cigarette free and I feel great!!!!!

Big tobacco is behind what crap? They're getting into ecigs, but they are not where they originated and you don't have to buy big national brands of ecigs at all if you don't want to. I don't.

By the way I just picked up some mini tanks for my night time vaping and a couple mini batteries for my day time vaping.
The mini batteries make the e-cig about the size of a 100mm cig. Perfect size for putting the e-cig in my pocket when doing stuff and having it not fall out.

I started with two of the 78mm batteries, one auto one manual. The manual battery shit the bed after roughly 6 weeks, but the auto is still going strong. The two minis I just got are 65mm long and both auto's. They take about 2 hours to charge. It's hard to judge how long they last between charges because I'm not constantly hitting them. On the minis I'm using the cartomizers and on the 78's the mini tanks.Right now I'm still using the tobacco e-liquids. One bottle I have is from Amerivape and the other is Halo's Tribeca. Both where kind of harsh when I first used them, but have mellowed nicely now.

Congrats to you. I'm nowhere near considering a no nicotine solution but am happy not to be smoking the cigarettes. Too bad they don't offer the flavored ones in no nicotine. For the do-it-yourselfers, you can buy the ejuice and buy flavors separately and mix your own, but it wouldn't work with your setup. I use tobacco flavored and add a touch of the Coke, Cherry, etc. flavors to each small bottle of it.

Depending on what cartomizer I'm using it either looks like a regular cig or a regular cig with a black filter.

Yeah I guess what got me going is (a) pictures of people with these humongus bong-like pipes - (and remember Suzanne (sbucciarel) likening it to 'drug paraphenalia' )- LOL perish the thought.

AND (big time) (b) reports of kids that have been burned and excessive amount of people going to the emergency hospital from accidents with the liquids you mix and pour and all that and they specifically mention the ones like I have (just the cig itself with the tips) as being safer by far.

By the way Thom congratulations(!) - I see Cuomo signed the medical cannibas deal yesterday! NY is on their way to better health for all its citizens! (LOL) ;o)

... seriously MJ did help me to quit smoking cigs also - because I don't smoke and drive - so I was too tanked to go to the store for cigs at least at night. heheheheh

... seriously MJ did help me to quit smoking cigs also - because I don't smoke and drive - so I was too tanked to go to the store for cigs at least at night. heheheheh

The bill Cuomo signed is nothing like what it was when it was introduced. One thing he had added was that he can shut it down whenever he wants. You still can't have the actual plant or can you smoke it, even though smoking is one of the best methods for most people. You also can't juice it, which has tremendous health benefits without getting you high. You can vape the oil, but that makes it restrictive for poor and low income people. Believe me the co called compassionate care act he signed, is not about compassion or even care.

I don't really see the danger in filling your own cartomizers.
About the worse that can happen is if you get the battery wet with the liquid it will shorten the battery life.

Bottom line one thing I have learned painfully is nicotine is an ACID - (nicotinic acid) is the full name. So stands to reason it would burn skin, mucous membranes, and stomach lining, etc. Everywhere it or it's vapors can touch it is burning in more ways than one!

p.s. sux about cuomo/bill - that is why you were not here whooping it up when he signed it.

There are numerous inaccuracies in that article. It refers to fumes from nicotine liquid. It is, in fact, nearly odorless. Any smell is barely detectible (especially in comparison to bleach or ammonia). As for being an acid, not much of an acid. I have gotten it on my fingers and a couple of times, a few drops from an atomizer that was dying on my lips or tongue. No burning. No damage done. No racing to the hospital.

It also indicates that over 51% of the calls are people who left liquids out in children's reach. Negligent parents also leave bleach, household cleaners, insecticides in reach of children, so nothing new there.

I prefer an ecig that I fill up with my own liquid and can even make my own flavors using a site that sells flavors. I don't live in a house with children, but when I did, I didn't leave toxic substances out for them to get into.

The media takes every opportunity to report ecigs in a negative light. They've been doing it since they were invented. They rarely ever give credit to ecigs for helping people get off real cigarettes, which kill thousands of people. One mishap with an ecig and it's going to be splattered all over the press, like it's an epidemic. What about reporting each case of death from lung cancer?

I've never had a battery explode or never spilled ejuice all over myself or drank it, but the damage to my lungs from years of smoking cigarettes is still there.

OK - don't get me wrong, e-cig is 10000000000000% times better than tobacco/nicotine cigarettes
and they had everything to do with me taking the final step to quit.

but just so you know I have used an e-cig a few times in the past and this time for an extended period and ongoing.
-- and It does create something wet if you don't want to call it water or fog or fluid I would - AND definitely know that there is something wet in my lungs that was never there in my triple-decades of chain cigarette addiction and abuse. I also have a tickling type cough.

So I guess everybody is different -

Another thing is when you stop nicotine completely you will be able to differentiate the various different YUCKY smells in a cigarette - and you will realize that nicotine DOES have an odor of it's own.

As I said I have been cleaning up for a year + 7 months total quit - When I made the decision to stop the nicotine e-cig (and go to nicotine free e-cig) it was because I realized that I still had that horrible smell and taste of nicotine - it is real subtle in the e-cig - nothing like cigarettes - but seriously it is there.

Yah Thom that is one of the best realizations of how happy it is not to smoke cigarettes - NO BURNS, BURNING, STENCH, ASHES, burning EYES, an 11th finger that is always there no matter what else you are doing. Throwing off the shackles and being free from a demon is RADICAL!

I have a lot of velour clothes and I have this one dress that must have 50 cigarette burns -(even an ash will burn velour) - I must save it for some punk museum piece for posterity - someday i will epoxy it. it is just so horribly scarred from cigarettes; of course it is black so I still wear it to remind me of how cigarettes are just so UGLY (i still like the dress lol but don't go out in public in it.).

No, we get you. You have at least tried them and know the benefits of using them when trying to kick a deadly habit. Nothing wrong with having some concerns. I haven't experienced any "wetness" in my lungs. Quite the contrary. The congestion I had from smoking has cleared up and my cough has gone from a deep cough to just a minor tickle cough occasionally. I've practically stopped coughing.

Glad you stuck with them and have gotten this far with quitting. Honestly, if I never go any farther than I am now, I will be happy just smoking ecigs with nicotine. I didn't think I'd ever be able to put the real thing down.

Every day I smoke the e-cigs more then the reg. cigs. It seems I'm more aware now of all the waste and "inconveniences" of reg. cigs.
What really set me off recently is burning my ass with the head of a cig. I was sitting here in my shorts with my feet up on a stool. The head of the cig came off, landed on my chair, and preceded to roll the leg of my shorts.
My eventual goal is to quit the nicotine. I'm already noticing certain differences with the e-cigs. For example I can smell and taste things again (not sure how I feel about that), and my lungs are working better.

I've neglected to say anything here about my smoking as I tend to keep it to myself but reading these comments I felt I should add some encouragement.

Seven weeks ago almost to the day an advert for a vaporizer caught my eye at a petrol station. I looked at the website when I got to work and bought one, I since found a vape shop and upgraded my bit of kit and bought some more flavours. I'm on the lowest level of nicotine now and haven't smoked anything since then.

In fact last week on a bit of a pub crawl with 2 heavy smokers I decided to have one and after 3 lugs I threw it away. It tasted like smoke flavoured smoke. The cherry flavour on the vaporizer was much nicer.

I don't intend to use it for long and want to get down to the 0% nicotine in the next few weeks then phase it out altogether. For want of a better way of putting it, compared to any other method I'd tried before, this was extremely easy.

Well done to everyone else and don't look back.

Thanks partly to this thread I ordered and received my first e-cig starter kit!
(I had to order it from the US as they aren't allowed to be sold with nicotine here in Oz.)

So I've been 'vaping' for 4 days now and I haven't touched a single cigarette.
These things are fantastic! They really do feel like regular cigarettes.

That’s how a pure vape-noob’s joy looks like, heh-heh) In my opinion, vaping is just another way to deliver nicotine or other psychoactive substances inside your body. Somebody can call eliquds “healthier” than traditional tobacco, I consider them as “less addictive and more aesthetically pleasant”. Got mine 0 mg ejuice from Gypsyvapes, but still have the urge of a few puffs everyday.

The article says, in part, ""There are far more questions than answers," he said, adding that the new regulation would provide a "framework" for additional rules in the future" THAT is a major flaw with this garbage! They figure they can expand the law, and nobody will even notice!

IAM shocked that they even went to courts here though. Considering that a major use of this is to deliver a substance they are to control in some way. It IS obviously against the law to control the main device though. It has PRECEDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THINK about it! Make this device bigger, ones that fills a WHOLE ROOM, and WHAT do you have? A VAPORIZOR !!!!!!! BOTH were created to potentially deliver a drug using water vapor!
