I think what you describe could be done with OpenOffice Impress:

PowerPoint could actually be pretty good for producing simple song and lyric videos. It really depends on what our objective is, what OS you're on and suchlike. What are the things you want to do? Do you want to do some greenscreen stuff. Do you want to edit and trim videos or just superimpose lyrics over existing videos?

You can use the freebie that comes with Windows 7.

      Windows live Movie Maker.
      Should be a free download?

I did this with that program! As well as Format Factory, (free download).

True, that you can speed up the video, but not the audio, and it tends to speed up in blocks, if you push it. As well as the fact that you can't reverse the video.
So, it has its limitations, but may be suitable?

This only has one track for putting extra sounds over the video, but you can just add, some extra sound effects onto the video, then publish or do a final save, then put it back up for another round of adding music, etc, over the video.
I know a bit clumsy, but it works.

If l do anymore l may consider buying Sony Vegas software, l have heard good things about that one, and it is only $40!

I am also use "Windows Movie Maker". I think Windows Movie Maker software is also help you to create a video. And if you want to create a slide show then you can use power point. For creating Slideshow "Power point" is also better. Thanks

Less is more. Keeping it simple takes time and effort.

For creating slideshow videos, my first choice would be Powerpoint 2010 or 2013, since both versions can export as a video. Next would be Proshow Gold.

There is a version of WMM, that just does powerpoint or image videos only!

But it is a bit clumsy, so l tended to just stay with WMM, and some graphics software.

Yep, WMM can be used to create a video, (it supports most formats, but older versions don't) just do a video and load it up.

But use the free software l discussed before to knock it down from HD to something less, as it tends to freeze up, when you load a purely HD video.

Almost all video editing software has a free trial, including Powerpoint and Proshow. Both have a free 30 day trial, then Powerpoint is $10 a month. It's far better than WMM. Proshow has a free Windows based trial and also offers a free online service.

Personally, I'd go with Powerpoint and then invest in stock media like Videoblocks and/or PresenterMedia.

The problem with OO Impress is that it doesn't export as video, so it adds an extra step which can be a big hassle.

Microsoft also offers Photo Story 3 for free, which is a pretty good free slideshow maker.

    Hi,

Thanks to everyone for their answers! Gonna give these things a try a little later on, at least the free ones first lol. I am reading that almost all of these work for lyric videos just depending if you want the slide show or not so thank you!

    All the best,

    Matt D.
