Firefox crashing like mad

Tried all the remedies. Firefox still crashing every 3 hours. Anybody else experiencing this? Windows 7, everything up to date.

Tried a full time switch to Chrome, Opera, both which I use occasionally and like, but Firefox has extensions I like, and the similar versions on the other browsers are not as good.

Maddening.

Yeah. It is extremely annoying, especially since FF supports extensions to Norton 360 that the others don't.

You didn't happen to update Adobe Flash recently, did you?

Yeah, but this has been happening for months. Including at least 4 Flash updates.

FF seems to have a serious memory leak...

I'll bet it is some addon or something that is caching things and then just CRASHES!

I think you are right. I used to have many addons, and I'm down to just a few. I'll keep testing those to see which one could be a problem, but so far nothing conclusive.

Yep, l went down that road as well. Well, my version updated and the tab+ icon disappeared.

Then after countless app adons, trying code and a system restart, (that crippled FF) l reinstalled with preferences intact that fixed that and other issues.

But l also found that Flash isn't compatible with FF, when it updates, or if FF updates, and you don't delete and reinstall Flash again, then constant crashing will result!

So, get rid of Flash that is installed for FF, and reinstall, that should fix it!

But make it easy on yourself, delete it, and then just click on a video in FF, and install before it bypasses the installation procedure!

Flash is current but not sure when I updated last. Flash has always been a hassle for at least a year and half. It hangs, stops altogther. I did all the recommended fixes and some worked for a short time. After awhile it was too much hassle to try to fix it, so I learned to live with it.

    What is your experience?

I 've got Memory Fox 7.4 installed. I used to run a script in FF to collect data from Google in 4 tabs at the same time, so the memory usage got up to 1 GB after the script had been running for 5 minutes. After installing Memory Fox, it would run forever. FF memory usage got down to 250MB max.

Just an update: So far I've installed Memory Fox and it seems to be working. I've been trying to force a crash with various shenanigans but it hasn't collapsed yet.

Video is still an annoyance--I have to refresh the page on YouTube to get it to play--my next step will be to rollback versions if I have to. For now things are better.

      Thanks for the help.

The only remedy I've found is to revert back to a fairly old version of flash. Flash is what is causing it, and there's several older versions that are stable. You just have to find the right one.

I'll give it a try. I used to get horrific memory leaks and I tracked that down to a Skype addon. Got rid of that and it was OK.

Can you share what version you are on? Would help me gauge how far I have to go back. Also, will the current addons work with an older FF?

Skype addon is the worst. I've had that for some time on Chrome and it really made things worse. Took it out as soon as I figured it out.

FF has not crashed on my PCs in years and I use them a minimal of 12 hours daily. I do not use other browsers, except for IE on average of once a week. Operating systems are Windows 7 & 8. Flash is manually updated after an average of 7 days after a new update is available. Automatic updates are disabled. Addons are minimal and nothing is memory intensive: Avast, Nimbus screen capture, and RoboForm.

A lot of my tech friends run numerous FF addons and Skype. Their browsers crash from time to time, but it is so seldom that they aren't concerned.

One program we all run is CCleaner because it cleans the browser really good. We all make it a common practice to run it before we reboot or shut down.

Seasoned is probably right about the problems being caused by addons. And I suspect automatic updates could also be a problem. Lots of my non-tech friends would experience failed automatic updates that caused frequent browser crashes.
