I went away for several hours - not having a problem now, but the last 3 times I clicked to get to the list of topics before I left, the Avast went off.

I JUST had the problem AGAIN.

    HEYSAL,

There are only 2 ways this can happen. ONE is if WARRIOR FORUM has a problem. I DOUBT that! The OTHER is if the ADS do, If it is the ADS, it will happen ONLY as affected ones pass by. It DOES happen intermittently.

    WARRIOR FORUM, ET AL,

Although this COULD be an unfortunate false alarm, I would recommend that warrior forum check ads at placement, or at least periodically. It IS a nuisance, but if such a thingis caught, you could be BLACK BALLED! If THAT happens, various proxies and website rating services may warn, or block access.

    LAURENCWINS,

You may never know if you have the problem. It is intermittent, and your AV may simply not inform you, or may not pick it up.

Well, MY problem is happening on CHROME. It is NOT browser restricted. It happens intermittently, probably only on an ad or two.

    I'm on FF.

Steve - would it be a sig or the ad at the top of the page?

I was talking about the ad at the top of the page. One ad ALWAYS seemed to trigger it with me! The last 2 times I saw it, it did NOT trigger the notice, so maybe it was fixed sometime this afternoon.

SOME sites are just INFECTED, and sometimes I think people infect the ad ON PURPOSE to help spread the virus. It is common ENOUGH that several antivirus programs now actually CHECK for it, and THAT is what generated the AVAST notice. It was basically saying "WARNING, THIS is a BAD SITE, and I caught the attempt!".

I don't know if this kind of code would even be allowed in a sig on this forum, but that could give the warning on EVERY hit on this thread.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but there was a spam post on here yesterday (I reported it) that had so much nasty code in it I was almost sure it was a Virus. It had "images" that weren't images and codes and symbols I didn't recognize.

Disclaimer: I have enough knowledge about the subject just to get me in trouble.

I have seen a lot of spam here that had code that might LOOK nasty to many, but it was HARMLESS. Between how HTML can look, javascript, etc... there is no telling how complicated and scary it could look.
And I have seen such posts here that were OBVIOUSLY written by foreigners, or in a foreign language, and they may show weird symbols.

The error I am getting is intermittent though. It started several days ago, and has continued. We are getting into dangerous territory though. If it were my forum, I would really be looking at getting rid of it ASAP. I was serious about the black balling. I have seen it happen MANY times. There are several sites I can't get to at work because THEY were blackballed because of such things. I use google and read email, and there is no telling where some stuff may go. Of course, I stay away from weird email.

The reason given is something like the site is blocked because it has a reputation for having malicious pages. And corporations generally use a SERVICE! Being blacked at ONE such place generally means you are blocked at ALL, that use that service!!!!! FURTHER, you can BET that some of those proxies are used in homes by families for things like sanitizing content for kids and visitors. They categorize a LOT of sites. The warrior forum has been lucky up to now. I don't think it has been blocked at ANY I have checked!

Okay, is this a test on my self restraint? You post a link and then tell me not to click it?

      LOL!

No, Dan, I didn't click it. So there! I passed.

I have a similar issue all the time, I've been reporting it for weeks and nothing has been done about it.

    I created a thread here, http://www.warriorforum.com/off-topi...eeds-done.html

Any input on that would be appreciated as well.

So has anyone reported any of this to the Forum Helpdesk?

I assume yes and please forgive me if I did not read every word in both threads about the smilies. I am pretty sure Adam mentioned not getting any response in his thread.

I think it is Seasoned that mentions sites being black listed (and blocked) due to various security issues...

I can remember a day not long ago - not sure if it was post Allen Says or not, but I could not access the forum, because Google had a problem with some link that was somewhere in the forum (note 1 link out of ~2000000). There was a page that blocked the forum display from my view and I could not navigate past 'the block'.

...at the time i felt it was draconian and fascist to prevent all the people with WSO's etc (business transactions) running through the forum, (actually they effectively shut down those businesses for several hours); but the Helpdesk did respond right away when notified, to remove the malware link.

    So what is different now?

    UPdate:

Alaistar has responded in Adam's thread and something will be done soon I assume.
