There are two big things for me:

      1. The clickbait expert said something like: People care about tits, ass, celebs. The reason, he believes, is because people are afraid to think about the bigger things in life and they are afraid when they DON'T think
      2. Also, but this might be more of a good refresher: People buy stuff (seminars, books etc) more out of the hope of change, rather then really going FOR change. "I bought this book, so I wil change in the future. But not today. I feel good, I did something about it!".

In general, this whole internet thing is out of whack. Clicking, clicking, clicking. Have you already refreshed the offline marketing page to see if I responded?
Not to call YOU out, but I know I do it. Clicking and refreshing. Constant dopamine rushes.

Its not even internet. Its also with books. Entering a new book: Dopamine rush.
90% of people don't even get further then chapter 1: They got their dopamine rush.

How many people do you believe have reread a certain book a couple of times?
How many textbooks have you read versus the more uplifting type of non-fiction books?
What have I really learned in the last book I read that I can really use in life?
What did I saw on the internet where I really learned something (bad example, on this forum I learen a lot and this video showed me a thing or two. However, whatabout Facebook?)

Its hard to get away from, but atleast we are in the best possible position of them all to get out of it. As (upcoming) marketing experts we see how human nature works, and so we become aware of our own thoughts and actions.

        thanks for that.

and yes I refreshed, waiting for your response.

yes. we are in great postion to change from self-awareness to action.

from a book to your own actions, gives you a doctorate degree!
taking knowledge and applying it (doctoring it up) to the real world to see effects.

from a book, and just doing nothing, no actions and "just talking about",
debating it, only makes someone a "master debator"

        love the play on words

This plays right into a video I shared not to long ago. The video was a presentation of the 3 things needed for a successful sales campaign and the broke down to:

#1 everyone believes what's on the label
          #2 focus on progress
          #3 is you ( willful ignorance )

In this case.its the headline that needs to be believed, he progress is the thinking that you the viewer is better than the related article, video etc. but in both cases it comes down to "You" and the willful ignorance.

Yes. The guy who leads the conversation is the owner of a company that teaches "pick up". He admits in this video, without internet, he would not be able to do what he did.
He has lots of watchers on youtube, people who follow him. Its almost cult like.
Def. some true understanding there it was makes us "click".

    Interesting video.

This gives me an idea for split testing banner ads on a single page while tracking conversions (31:07 in the video).

I have a new site that sells a single product, I'm going to have a minimal home page with a slideshow of about 20-30 images, when each image loads in the slide I'll have a different banner ad advertising that one product in a slightly different way (20-30 test) all on a single webpage. This way I can weed out the low performing ads & narrow down to just a handful of decent performing ads.

    Good stuff.

Right at 40:00 is this humdinger of a quote "Change is very scary, but the hope of change is very comforting" THAT is how these guys do what they do.

And we as marketers fight against this on a daily basis.

That's the most important part I got out of it as well.

People don't want change. They want the hope of change.

Change is painful and takes effort. But to hope for change? It feels like you are doing something. Insightful stuff.

Since I have been called out as a new ager... I do not believe in coincidence. Things always appear and happen for a reason. But anyways, for Thet, I got this nice little video in my e-mail box this evening, and it just so happens to play nicely with the journey you are following, and is very much in line with the above video. enjoy!

          • had time to watch entire video.

hope this moves thread forward and/or helps others

            at the 42:07 mark :

            talks about marketers (us)

            "window into human nature"
            "dark reality of the game"

            "marketers most insightful people.."

good stuff, because I was trained in the field of Psychology, then sales I can identify

with #'s (clickbait stats) and the dark reality that marketers have to face
(the only way to change the game, is to play the game)

            thanks Thet!

really good insights throughout the 45 minutes
