THE ANSWER TO: Is this a viable business and what would you charge?

I constantly see posts asking a derivative of the same question.

It always goes something like this.

I was thinking of doing X to make Y, is this viable?
How would you go about it and how much would you charge?

Here is the simple answer.

It is possible to make almost any amount of money doing almost anything.
I don't care what it is, the service is almost irrelevant.
If you search our lovely planet enough you will find people making money
doing the strangest things, some of them making lots and lots of money.

The real question is how much YOU can make
and what is the best way for YOU to go about it.
Nobody else can really answer that for you.
It's too personal.
Depends on your skills, how you are perceived, who you target, hell sometimes it's just the luck of finding one guy with deep pockets that believes your pitch that day.

That may not be very helpful so let me tell you a few things that are.

1. No matter how many people on here tell you that you can't make money
doing X, all that really means is THEY can't make money doing X.

2. No matter how many people on here tell you they are making a ton of money
doing X, they are often full of crap.

3. The ones that really are making lots of money doing X could make lots of money doing Y and Z because the service is not relevant, they know how to target and sell and/or their market perceives them a particular way.

As an example of perception some guys could offer to write an email drip for free and there would be no takers. Then you could take a few elite well known internet marketers that could ask 10k in cash for a series of emails and they could have a waiting list.

The general rule to making money on services is you can make money doing something people need to do but hate doing or find people already doing something that you can do better and show that there is at minimum a break even or even better a profit in paying you to do it. In other words the time they lose doing it plus the increased profits in you doing it ends up actually making them money to be hands off.

No matter who you seek advice from on here, at some point in their life the X amount of money you currently wish to make was a lot of money BUT to a decent sized business with cash flow $X is generally just another expense that does not get noticed much so making $X/month for any service that a business needs done or hates doing is certainly not asking for the moon and stars. That money will simply go to the person that can find those businesses and is perceived by that business as being able to deliver and having value.

SOMEONE could make what seems like that unattainable $X with one client. If that will be YOU depends on YOU. If YOU cannot seem to make that right now it is NOT the service you are offering, its YOU.

The good news is that it MAY be possible for YOU to get good enough at targeting, marketing and delivering services that you can make X with the service of your choice.

In short people bounce from service offer to service offer, don't make what they hoped and think I just have to find the right service, it's not my fault there is just no money in offering this service. That is not really true. The service may have some earning limitations but for the amount of money that most that are starting out would be happy with, almost any service would do.

    OMG.

I have been saying this FOREVER.

This is the first time I've seen anyone else say it so clearly.

    Just about anything will work.

    That's how I've said it.

    YES.

People need to get this into their heads.

The question is not about the product or service. It's about YOU, the person delivering it, and your audience.

Many roads to success are available.

And yours is going to be yours alone.

Others can help you, but they can't do it for you.

People get stuck with one single vision of success...one constantly marketed to them...they even see it on TV.

    That's a falsehood.

You can, and will if you are persistent enough, come up with your own road.

    The secret is CONFIDENCE.

And confidence comes from having a plan. Zeroing in on that high value match-up between your customer's problem and your solution. Being able to repeat and duplicate that result (that's also known as "developing skill"). Being willing to be punched in the face for two years and still keep with it.

Compare/contrast with how nearly everyone here believes and behaves.

Jason I think this is one big reason for people that jump from service to service or quit. I often post to local classifieds and in business sections. My ads are simple, things like "Lead generation web site 10k+/monthly to be discussed..."

I cannot even begin to describe the vile email I have received from other "web guys" trying to sell $200 web sites calling me things you should reserve for your worst enemy. One guy went so far as to post on the same classified making all kinds of false claims about me. They were so detailed and malicious to such an extent that I had to introduce him to the nightmare that nobody wants to meet, my lawyer lol

When I have come in on projects that include many providers, some of which were blowing smoke up the business owners $ss and ripping him off, I have found myself in virtual slug fests to protect his interests and make sure the project met its goals. My local clients actually pay me and bring me to provider meetings to vet and if needed scare the shit out of anyone pitching them stuff that is total crap.

Especially funny and why I replied is that you specifically said "get punched in the face". I have mentored a few people locally and when in person and they asked me how I get through some of these things I grab my nose and twist it around. Its like silly putty. I have a background in policing and engaged in full contact boxing and kickboxing much of my life. I am LITERALLY used to be punched in the face ;-) so I am ideally suited for fighting my way to a payday and like you I believe it is one of the main criteria for surviving and thriving in any sales driven business.

It is also one of the reasons we cannot tell someone else if they will be succesful at X. We don't know how they will respond in battle.

Finding something we "can" do is easy.... Doesnt really matter.

What's important is what we "will" do.

The thing to look for is "What am I perfectly willing to do?"

    Maybe even "excited" to do...

I also see so many posts of can you help me, I am afraid to do X.
X is usually cold calling, or selling etc...

I almost want to reply with "Consider yourself blessed that you have led and continue to lead a life where your definition of scary is X".

Most of us have lived through much scarier things or have people we love going through so much worse that performing those tasks that we used to find scary now do not even warrant mention.

It's a good answer. I think I'll use it. Thanks.

Conquering fears is one of the very few things REQUIRED to find success and make your own way.

On just about any day of self-employment, you must be ready to charge into a hornets nest of things that are scary. Deals falling apart, aggressive opponents, angry clients, lawsuits, insurance problems, accounting problems, useless employees ruining things - the list goes on and on.

The second someone tells me they are afraid of something, I tell them that very thing is what they MUST do next.

Now, there are many things I do not want do and I choose not to do them. Door knocking for example. I will hopefully never need to do it again. But, it isn't about fear. I used up a lot of shoe leather knocking on doors in the past. If I were afraid of it - I would insist that I do it until it no longer scared me. That fear would be the thing that would hold me back.

Agree with the OP - everything works. It is our own fears and insecurities that hold us back.

If you are struggling - make a list of things that you know you should be doing but are avoiding - these are the things you must conquer. Just do them anyway. Every day. Fear feeds on time so just jump right in.

If you can't conquer these tiny little fears - I'm afraid you will not have the courage to beat the REAL hard things that you will face as a business owner.

I know of one woman who makes a large amount of money doing nothing but eating on webcam for men. Nothing sexual at all, just sitting there eating, fully clothed.

My point is if it's possible on the internet where conversion rates average at 2% in a niche as weird as eating on webcam, then it's definitely possible in real life where conversion rates are much higher and in a more mainstream subject, to make money at anything.

    In other words...fully agreed.
