Ok,
I;m a retired Marine and Overseas Security Contractor. Now I have decided to stay in the states and wanted to stay in the security business somehow. I am now a dealer for Security and Home Automation equipment. It is a great product. The problem is I am so new to it and have no customer base yet. I do offline marketing with paper ads, fliers and door to door. I am now wanting to do online lead generation but am pretty new to it. Is my best bet to start a website with a blog and have a capture page to collect info from interested parties? I am starting with social media as well. I am just trying to build a nice sales funnel.Any input would be appreciated..

    Semper Fi,

    Disabled Marine here.

Well, yes, you're correct. The things you would want to do are listed below.

    1. Start a blog. Make what I call cornerstone content. In other words, content so good that it's an anchor piece. This will generally be over 2,000 words with several images, an infographic and maybe even a video.

    2. Get a great software that will allow you to put opt in forms on your site, links to your opt in page in the content (important) and light boxes as an exit or entry pop up.

    3. Build each post like you want it to win awards. This is the kind of content that gets shared. Then, promote that content.

Remember, marketing is 90% promotion (I.E. marketing). You can create amazing content, but, if no one see's it your not going to sell anything.

    4. The main focus of all your marketing should be to build a list. Use your social media, ads, syndication and more for one purpose... TO BUILD YOUR LIST!!!

    Welcome to the forum.

It starts with creating your own website with a blog. Create quality content (Always remember that "Content is King") and have a targeted audience. Optimize your site (Do some basic SEO) to gain better visibility online. Go for social media for your brand's presence and for sharing your content. Engage with your target audience, share some tips and interesting discussions. An online forum is one of the best way to engage and know your audience well. Lastly, Look for marketing tools to manage your content marketing campaign.

Really look at the demographics of your typical customers and figure out
where they will see your offers, ie, which social media site will they likely use.
    Facebook ads perhaps?

Co-market with other home service businesses such as home improvement and
heating and air conditioning contractors. Look at the EDDM program that the US
Postal Service offers. |You could design the card or flyer and do all the work and
have the companies you co-market with pay some or all of the costs. Or, do solo
    EDDM.

Make sure your blog and website are mobile friendly because it looks like your
customers use smart phones to operate your products.

If you do cameras for nanny cam kind of stuff, etc... you could target the parent's piece of mind
and do commercial applications such as day care, doggy day care, and general business
    security.

Don't overlook the marketing finances, tools and resources the parent company offers.

I appreciate the info. I am already hitting up parents and pet owners. So far mainly using day cares, kids stores, veterinarians and pet shops. Right now my next goal is to set up my website/blog and try to get as much quality content as I can. Ive worked as a private security consultant for a quite some time so have quite a bit of info. Is my best bet to get a landing page set up to collect info and start my list? I know your list is important. Can someone recommend a few places? Right now Im lookin at Getresponse and Wishpond.
