Need some feedback. Please

Hey warriors,

I plan on offering a service to remotely repair computers that can still access the net and troubleshoot potential hardware issues. I have put a poll on this one so no need to post to this thread unless you want to but please submit a poll. I plan on putting a good amount of time and effort in this and would like a good general consensus. If this thread needs to be in another thread please let me know

I have seen this business model before, and was really pleased with it (forget what site i used though). They were offering a "Speed up your PC service" ... guy logged in, downloaded his software zip file, installed software (mostly freeware), and within minutes was all done.

@ jminkler Yea thats one of the things I want to do a spinoff but offer all the freeware on my site with how to docs on how to install and run them. I want to be able to do the virus checks and scans and any other remote pc service that can be fixed remotely.

@danny you make a very valid point. I would really need to work on my privacy agreement to make sure it is stated in there so im covered. I am very comfortable in what I do so if I go in I will take care of whatever is going on at that moment and if I dont I will refund their money as there is no reason to charge them unlike other pc services that do and what is performed doesnt work. Thats one of the reasons I decided to get into it online cause many of my onsite customers have done that before and it didnt work but still paid

That's not repairing, then. Do you mean telephone help for people who want to fix their computers themselves?

If that's the case then you can definitely do that. Just be prepared to put up a lot of flyers.

This is a commonly used service by the most "switched on" PC Repair companies already. If you manage it effectively, it will work very well for you. However as already mentioned, there are some very important liabilities to consider.

In my opinion this sort of service would work best if you actually have a physical PC Repair company running alongside it. Do you have this, or are you going to be starting from scratch?

I'm part owner of a PC Repair company here in the UK and the customers that use the online repair service the most are those that have already dealt with us face-to-face but just don't have the time to arrange for an engineer visit.
