Hello

I have read MANY reports and articles on how to get your business up on google maps and a friend has even helped me that has bought a number of maps related products...
However, having done EVERYTHING i have seen I am nowhere....

Anyone willing to help me out a little here? What am I missing?

I have had success very quickly with 2 sites. Could it be that your market is very competitive? Which courses did you purchase. Google Maps Cash is great! Did you follow the instructions to the T?

Have you confirmed your listing with Google yet? How long has it been since you submitted it?

A little more information would be a help so we can figure it out. What is the business category, city, state?

      Thanks, Shane

I have followed both courses, as I said, a friend of mine has them but has never used them himself, so he cant help any more.....

I have a profile of 100%, with keywords all over the place (as suggested), I am building citations (using everyones "secret weapon"). The listing is confirmed. The competition is relatively low (I would say).... The company at spot A hasnt event got a complete listing....!!

I have added a geo sitemap.... I have done everything... Its been just over 2 weeks...

if you have done everything right and the immediate rank changes (from your optimization) don't really help, you will have to wait for the major update by Google.... it takes longer than 2 weeks...

Doing all of that does not necessarily guarantee that you will get the "A" position or even the seven box.

Unfortunately, you have to understand that you are dealing with Google. They do things their own way and in their own time. When you read about what you are "supposed" to do, it is still all speculation. It's what MAY work. There is no magic formula that works every time.

Is your site optimized in other ways? Are you getting traffic with articles, blogs, etc.? The strength of your site within google will make a difference with Google maps as well.

You need to give it time. 2 weeks is not enough time for google to catch up with all your changes.

2 weeks is not really enough. Google is unpredictable to moment it visits your site you will not notice it. But just be patience and continue what you are doing by following the proper guidelines.

i know it takes a while for it to update a give me a better position on the map, what I was looking to find out was when I update the info on the business (ie description, additional info) how long is it before it actually takes affect on the maps page, so that people read the updated info?

Its been almost 24hrs since changing some of the info, its yet to show on the maps page....

It depends on many factors.... (and there's always exceptions to the rule)

Was it a long established brick & mortar biz?

A brand spanking new listing can take MONTHS!!!

Is it a REAL business or a KEYWORD-rich named business?

GP is getting tough on THAT!

in case ppl are having the same problem as me, here is what I have found:

    "
You have to wait till the next Maps index update to run and take the new Places entry data.

    It take about two weeks.

If its been longer try a small change to the description as changes sometimes get lost."

two types of updates with Google Places:

    1. immediate --> listing moves up or down immediately after modification (description, category, review, etc).... it doesn't matter old or new listings....

    2. slow ---> when google does its major update, it calculates all the listings... this is where listings with best optimization are more likely to be bumped up....

You are probably in the "Google Dance" phase. A Lot of reindexing going on every month.

Also, did you file and register the XML and KML files? Your latitude and longitude coordinates?

Get your videos? Get your alt tagged images? You have to make sure you are very complete in every piece of registration.

Hi . exactly get your point. It is 30 % depends on luck to get first page ranking in local center. we can just follow ideal guide line for submitting. But Kml file plays important role..........

Finding a two box listing and turning it into a three box listing actually does work. If you can spot two box listings and follow the optimisation process fully for your listing you should be able to turn the two box into a three box.

    • About 50 different factors are involved in the Places algo, but 10 are key. And it's like working on a puzzle, you have to work to make all the pieces fit.

I always get my clients a couple page 1st page rankings and usually even some #1 rankings right after I optimize their page - even if competitive market and keywords. But they are all existing businesses that already have at least some PlaceRank established. Also those top immediate rankings aren't for their core KW, which can take months to rank.

So if this is a brand new business with a brand new Place page, it could take some time. Have you tried to find some lower competition KWs that still pull a map search, that you could optimize for while you build up your Google trust points?
