maps vs organic clicks

Is there any unbiased research (ie not google's) that quantifies maps clicks vs. organic clicks? If not what do the gurus think in general? Thanks in advance.

    Hi

Not interested in being a Guru but here's our take on it.

From what we have seen organic listings of any sort - either standard listings or Google Maps/Places listings get similar traffic.

If the 1, 3 or 7 box is in the first "organic spot" then it is in all likelihood going to get a pretty decent amount of traffic.

If the same situation occurs for a traditional listing then a similar result will occur.

Naturally the "Google Places boxes will have some advantage in the local searches as if one is available they tend to be found in the prime spots on page #1.

From a purely global search though they rarely show up so traditional organic listings hold sway.

    Hope that helps

    Regards

Thanks for the response. I didn't realize maps/places were considered organic. With that in mind I guess I meant maps vs organic sites. I guess I've got a lot to learn since I don't even know what the 1, 3 or 7 box is. So if someone has a top spot on maps and they're not getting any traffic, there's probably not enough search volume for the keyphrases they are showing up for, correct? Thanks.

        Hi

When it comes to Google Places they allow you to have your local entries show up in the boxes that they provide.

Google's algorithm gives a value on the info that you and other businesses provide and places it in either a box that has just one allowable business entry, a box that has up to 3 allowable business entries or a box that allows up to 7 business entries.

Sometimes they relegate your entry to the "click here for more" listings link where you can find the listing for your business.

If you are inside the 1, 3 or 7 box you are a good chance of being noticed - if you aren't in it - life will be tough.

        Hope that helps.

        Regards
