Building your client's list with QR codes

Hey Warriors,

Not sure if most of you have seen this already but Aweber just sent out an email broadcast on building a list with QR codes.

This could benefit your clients in many ways, especially you local retail stores. Juat slap a QR code at the register and have the employee ask if the person wants updates on discounts blah, blah, blah and have them scan the QR code with thier smart phone.

What do you guys think? You gonna suggest this to your clients? I know I will.

Here is the article.

Build Your List With QR Codes

Post your thoughts,

This is hot! Apple has been adding the QR code app on their phones for the last couple of years, and now most smart phone manufacturers are doing the same. Major retail, banks and corporations are getting into the act.

  • Do you know what the minimum size for the printable area is? Like could it be small enough to go on a pen?

not sure, but it would be great for business cards, post cards and flyers. Even door hangers.

Suggest not going below 1 X 1 inch. The problem is most phones can't auto-focus on anything smaller.

This should be big pretty soon.

I had to borrow my 14 year old's smart phone, get her to download the app (free), and scan AWeber's QR code to see how it all works.

The video on Quentin's thread (post above) is simple but pretty good. But I'm still trying to figure out:
        1. percentage of smart phones with the scanner app installed (and how many users now how to use it!) - extremely low I'm sure
        2. if you send them to an opt-in form, how hard is to to enter your email into it?, and confirm?
        3. is there a way for the offline business owner to use his smart phone, scan the code for the client and let the client opt-in on the business owner's phone?
        4. If the phone scans a QR code that leads to a page with a coupon on it, how does he print it, what good is that if he can't print or bookmark it easily?
I think we're way ahead of a curve that could be huge in a year or so! I read that smart phone penetration is only 26% of all cell users right now (small business owners were at 34% though). Probably 5% or less of those know anything about using QR codes.

It has many more uses than opt-ins though.

        Here's a cool video I found on it ...

        No, I'm not affiliated.

Once we see statistics that this (QR code usage) is taking off, we have to jump on it. Right now I think it's hard to get a good ROI on it due to lack of penetration. It could be the 1992 banner ads for 2011. Just my thoughts.

I agree ... this should be pretty big ... soon.

While it is not a show stopper, downloading an app is a bit of a hassle.

For getting people to enter their email ... I have been working on a squeeze page generator to do just that.

          Basic Mobile Squeeze Page

Should be very easy for someone to signup and confirm all on their smartphone.

          It will look like this:
