Meta Refresh or Clone Blog for Offline Biz?

Hi warriors,

I've got a question concerning how to build multiple ranking sites for a friend's local contracting business. I built them a Wordpress site that is ranking #1 for a good keyword (even above the maps) and they just got a $9000.00 job from it. Right now I am getting ready to set up their business on Google Places, and I threw up a Blogger blog--but it occurred to me that a bunch of keyword rich domain names may also be a good investment for this business.

So----should I clone the WP blog and host it multiple times on my reseller account under different keyword rich domain names for local traffic? Or is a meta refresh page all I need for each domain I host---or can the be penalized by Google? And if meta refresh is OK----how do I do a meta refresh page with the meta tag keywords placed in it to get the search engine juice? I don't know the correct approach.

I talked to GoDaddy and they said that their link forwarding would not be very search engine friendly (which I had thought but was hoping for a quick answer). The guy suggested something like meta refresh over and above 401 redirects (which sounded like what they used for forwarding). But my thought is--if I am going to drop a met refresh file on a host for a new domain name, I might as well drop the entire WP blog multiple times under these keyword rich domain names---especially if I purchase one of those cloner softwares.

I hope this makes sense. Does anyone have any great advice for me?

Thanks,
Sandy

Yes that can be an extremely valuable resource...especially since your client is getting enormous value from just one paying client.

Here's are two underlying guidelines when you're creating content for a site:

Optimize each page for a keyword phrase.

Use unique, highly targeted content on every page.

Put simply give the search engines what they want...high quality content for their searchers...and the search engines will reward you with rankings.

Never, never try to trick the search engines with copied content or any other of the crazy schemes you'll see.

Just stick to creating highly targeted, high quality content for your websites and you'll get good rankings and you'll keep those rankings for years to come (unlike the people who will start whining every time there is a google "slap" and their websites disappear from the rankings).

Thanks Andrew. I am trying to make the site a strong force in the search engines and do not want to incur any penalties. I just read up on "meta refresh" pages and discovered that they could incur some search engine penalties. Also--as mentioned--I am wondering if creating multiple clone blogs would also incur some penalty for duplicate content (I had questioned that before I wrote my original post).

So how would you best utilize extra key word rich domain names for a local business?

      Thanks,

      Sandy

I am thinking about creating mini pages for each domain name with content directly related to the keyword rich name---and then link to my main site.

This sounds better to me---what do you all think?

Also, does anyone have a wordpress template to create a simple minipage---or should I stick with a static page?

        Thanks,

        Sandy

I would avoid the Meta Refresh approach - not only for the penalty / same IP reasons, but also because I have encountered some browsers that do funny things with / disable it.

If you put up multiple sites on your reseller account and use the same content you are open to "duplicate content penalty". Same content on the same IP. I don't know what kind of contracting your client does but if you pm me I may have some PLR material you could use.
