I recently hired a telemarketer with 18 years experience. She has been working for a few days, but so far not a ton of success. Wondering if we are targeting the wrong industries. We have started with dentists, chiropractors, doctors.

I think we might have better luck with trade industries where the decision makers will answer the phone more often. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this?

I guess no one has any suggestions on good markets to cold call.

The script may be the issue. You could also make a simple flyer and just have someone handout to the businesses and then follow up with a call.

The script is pretty simple, we basically will put you on the first page of Google and not charge you a penny until we get you there. No risk and no up front costs until results are seen. Most of the businesses are saying they either already have someone doing it or someone in house does that.

It looks to me like you may be using some worn-out leads. Have you tried asking them what results they're getting, and maybe offer tracking, capturing leads, autoresponder, other marketing venues, etc?

      A few thoughts.

      1) Are you marketing locally? state level? national?
      2) Most of the people in those businesses build up via referrals, so make sure you work that angle.
3 The telemarketer may be bad and/or the script as Jodib pointed out.
      4) If they have somebody working on their site then that is a either a blowoff or a valid excuse. If they are on the front page it's legit, if not, they are blowing smoke. Regardless, it's the telemarketers job to dig and find the hot buttons and create interest.
      5) Do you have experience telemarketing?

      Hope this helps.

Your offer sounds good. I've personally had good luck targeting plumbers and electricians. White collar professions can be a little more challenging as the people tend to be more skeptical/scared of getting scammed.

The leads are being generated from the online yellow pages, google and yahoo.

Are you trying to sell your service through the telemarketer? If so, that could be your problem.
