Website by the month or upfront?

Hi Guys.

Has anyone on here had any experience with charging a customer per month for their website design ? This is what I mean.

You would charge them either
29.95
49.95
69.95
per month for the design and hosting, maybe even more to all yourself to be on retainer for changes to the website. I have been charging the customer upfront for the design of their site. BUt, some cant afford the 750 - 1500 right now or upfront. This may be more work then it is worth to keep them on a monthly fee. But, then I would be able to take down the site if they do not pay.

This would be for the really small businesses that would rather be on a payment plan and I would already know this before going in to their business and wouldnt offer the upfront package paid in full option. These guys really dont know nothing about the internet, just want a site and someone to manage it and host it.

what do you think?

I think it may be too much of a hassle personally.
However, you could still offer the paid in full option.
    Say, we have two options:
    Paid in full today- $599
    12 Month Payment Plan- $59.99/Month For 1 Year = an extra $120

  • I thought of that option as well. I am already going to charge the client $20 per month for hosting. My server will hold many websites so it is another way for me to be able to get residual income. Besides it would cost them atleast $150 per year anyway to be hosted. I can do that for them so they never have to worry, and I get the hosting for free.

    Thanks
