Lately I have been using a "freebie" when calling on new businesses - if they purchase a website, I will build a custom Facebook page absolutely free.

If I do the FB page myself, about an hour or two. Or I can outsource it for very cheap. Either way, it increases the businesses interest in me when I am cold-calling and also helps position me in the realm of consultant versus designer, opening the door to sell future marketing services.

    Cherry -

Not a bad idea at all. Give them something free in exchange for their business.

You could also offer them a free photo gallery, video for their site, and more.

Point is the model is great, just tweak the offer and see what happens.

Exactly - everyone loves something for "free".

I definitely think whatever you feel comfortable pitching would be great, but the reason I say a Facebook page or something similar is because I feel a lot of businesses either already use or are planning to use social media as they see the potential it could have on their business.

How much custom content do you put on this page?

Can you take that content from the website you're building, or do you have to do an in-depth interview with them just for the facebook page?

Typically with Facebook pages I will replicate their website on a smaller scale. You do not need to make it complicated, just make a brief informational page modeled on the website. You can use that opportunity to upsell the free page - if they want to use "reveal" content, have a couple pages, etc. charge them for that.

It is a good idea to increase your business and attract the customers. Now a days people like some extra in the same cost. It will cost you a little but increase the income a lot.
