Google Maps/Places Review - Help !!!

I have had great success with Google Maps/Places over the years but this one has me stumped. They want to be on first page for Personal Trainer San Diego or Personal Training San Diego.

Here is what I have already done.

1. 10 Pics, with Keywords on name of file.
2. 5 YouTube Videos
3. 30+ Directories/citations
4. Have several articles leading to Place Page
5. Have a valid coupon and even sponsored ad.
6. 27 Reviews as well.

I think that the lack of SEO on the site is the main problem, any more ideas?

What top directories have you listed the company with?
Also, how long have the directory citations been active? (are the directory listings/citations indexed/included in the normal organic google search results?)

Depending on your feedback I may have a solution to you?

Is it wise to create backlinks to my Google Place/Maps page or should I create them pointing to the Website itself that supports the Maps page??

You really need to create CITATIONS to the Google Places listing. This is similar to the backlinks, but actually requires you to list all the important information for the business - name, address, phone. It will also be valuable to have optimized website, as when your website and listing merge, the Google Places listing will benefit from this and eventually will rank higher.

    Hey James,

There are a few things that you have to do (I am ordering them due to the degree of importance and urgency):

    1) Immediately remove "San Diego" from the business name and the keywords.
    2) The website needs some serious optimization and it needs to get merged with the listing
    3) Try to pull some marketing strategy to get Hotpot reviews
    4) Change the description

Move to optimization of the website, because there not much you can do anymore for the Google Places page.

Do the reviews have the keywords in them ? I find that helps alot with ranking.

Also check out the citations of your competitors and see if you can also grab those as well.

Why isn't San diego mentioned somewhere in that? Also, even though you have citations I would spread it out through numerous domains.

Good advice from everyone here so far.

You need to take each one of those citations/directory listings that you have created (especially the ones that have not already been picked up by google in the GP listing or organic serps) and create RSS feeds from them.

go to BackLinks2RSS - HTML Links into RSS Feeds (not my site)

I recommend putting max 5 urls/listings in each RSS feed. Optimize the feed with keywords and put the EXACT company address/phone number listed on the GP listing (important) in the RSS description.

Next I want you to take each of these RSS Feeds over to this place Fast Index and Free Backlinks Tool Online on BulkPing.com (not my site) and run each RSS url through this really powerful indexing tool.

Next go to pingler.com and ping the RSS feeds (I like pingler.com 's pinging service better)

    Question:

Do the tier 1 Directory/Citation listings have at least 5-10 keyword optimized reviews? (ex: citysearch / yelp / insiderpages)

note: If you are not already doing so - I recommend that you upload your images that you are using in your GP listing to a Flickr account and then geo-tag them with the exact address of your listing and name them w/ keywords.

Then re-add them to your GP listing and any other directory/citation listing that allows images using the flickr link/url to the image(s). (Insiderpages.com listings allow up to 10 images)

          All great comments!

          My two cents worth...

          - social bookmark each citation and Google Places
          - fill out Google Profile
          - add images and geotarget them in Flickr and Panoramio
          - areas serviced

Thanks everyone !!! We are coming up on page 5 and 6. I seriously doubt any of the Top 10 have done as much as I have. The clients Website is a Franchise/Template and I think they are limited in what they can do from an SEO perspective. I will try what has been told and report back. Thanks

I just saw the site and I was about to say it looks like a franchise. That could be tricky.

Could they develop their own site? It that within the franchise regulations?

    Hey SD,

Did you remember the KML and geo-sitemap files? You'll need the lat/lon for your clients business address.

I know a cool tool, just pm me if you need help.

Here's a couple more citation sources you can use that some of the top ranking fitness listings are using:

    - Facebook (many health & beauty niche sites use fb as a citation source, well - the top ranking ones do anyway)

    - Wellness.com
    - healthclubdirectory.com (if appropriate)
    - gympost.com

Your biggest problem is the mission hills site. You already have a Google Places showing for the FitnessTogether.com domain for the mission hills location, so you have to make yourself more relevant for that location.

So I took a look at Majestic SEO. The mission hills location has 337 incoming backlinks to their page, while the point loma one has 7 incoming links.

That's just not going to work. Google is only going to show one result for each TLD, and right now you're competing against not just the others in first page, but primarily the Mission Hills location. I loved living in Mission Hills.

Ok secondly your citations really aren't counting for you as much as the Mission Hills location. They got their Yahoo citation included in primary citations. That's why Mission Hills is killing you as well.

I would immediately pay for the Yahoo directory, for $299 the results are usually worth it for offline clients. I would keyword rich up my Yahoo listing. That may be enough by itself to shoot you up the listings.

Try some press releases tightly joined between your places page and your other citation sources you'd like to promote(ie Insider Pages). I would probably release a press release every other week for a few months.

      Good Luck!

How do you explain national chains then?

How long have you been waiting for results? It could take a few weeks after citations, hell it could even take a couple months.

Pretty simple to test this out. Do a search in your city for Pizza. For the most part you're going to get 1 of each type chain. Now do a search a search for Pizza Hut, and you'll see all the franchise locations. That's what he's fighting against, he's trying to be the second "pizza hut" to show up in the listings.

Sometimes you can give more to achieve less, the client has to be educated that its their franchise site thats letting you and them down , you cant win the Daytona 500 in a beaten up Cadillac no matter how much sponsorship you put on the car .
Tell the client the truth and offer the solution (offer it to the entire franchise organisation massive op for you)
