I Need Your Help

I just set up an appointment with a jewelry for Monday and let's say he drops a year's salary on tv and newspaper ads per MONTH. He is not getting the response he'd like and wants to turn to the World Wide Web.

He is 70 years old and his son, a client of mine, told me "be careful, he has NO idea how the Internet works and you may need to have a drink before you talk to him". I spoke to the guy and he is eager to learn how the Internet could bring him more business. He even offered to pay for my time during the meeting.

This is what I was thinking of offering...
-Google Places
-Run Facebook Fan Page as they already they one, although plain
-Mobile Site

I want to package up a marketing campaign for a nice monthly retainer.

I appreciate any/all help

    I'd think articles and blogging would be useful for this type of business, there are so many things to talk about with different gifts, gems, gold, fittings, etc... these things will help in the social media and SEM too. Plus, at the age of 70 the guy probably has some interesting stories to tell in addition to being an expert at his craft.

    I would hook up Darren, or hook him up with one of Voasi's packages that include a youtube video, places, seo... and split the commission with Darren, or Adam Maywald (Voasi). They are killer. You can find Voasi here or TMF. Adam can close 5k per mth clients, and I believe he is in your area...

    My two cents. Find a "package" with bulletted features and benefits to offer him. That will help you with clarity and direction in your meeting.

      You are going to second step before the first step.

      First step is to go in and find out what he really wants.

      You have to dig in much deeper than the obvious....that being going online.

      You go in on a fact finding mission, then next step is to get back to him with a proposal.

      It still would be good to have the numbers of searches done on Google for his location
      with many different keywords. Also next major city.

      Also be prepared to teach him about paid search and free search on Google...and you want to get him on free search.

      That comes after finding out why he really wants to go online.

      Use open end questions, like

      "Tell me more about...

      "Why is that important to you...

      "What will happen if you don't get it...

      Business owners have all the time in the world to talk to another business owner [you],
      but they hate talking to sales people.

      A doctor never talks about the latest wonder drug, you only find out the name of it when you have paid for it from your chemist!

      So thoroughly find out what is needed first, like any top consultant and doctor would do.

    Instead of newspaper he should get radio spots. Jewelry is one of those things that are difficult online unless you're running a wholesale outlet, then people will question the authenticity. TV and Radio is the way he should go instead of newspaper. Maybe still offer a website, mobile website, and google places, but if you land him you're going to lose him fast if you don't perform.

    I have plenty of ideas and maybe I will just go in for a talk to see what he wants to do.

    IMO you can buy a book and read it and tell him what you learned from that book. I think it makes your teaching and his understanding better and classified.
