Simply Take Action to Make Money Today

We have thousands of threads in the offline niche now which is really cool.

Cheers to everyone!

I really wanted to just make a statement for all those struggling getting their offline business off the ground.

80 % of your business should be getting clients

This could mean

- Emailing prospects
- Calling them
- Direct Mail
- Visiting in person
- Referrals
- Online / Offline Ads
- Networking / Events
- Internet Marketing

The key here isn't necessarily how to do this business; it's the matter of taking action and going through enough prospecting to get clients.

I come from a network marketing background and I spent 99% of my time in prospecting. At least, that's what you should be doing to be successful.

So.....

Spend a little less time on here researching the latest offline trick or service we can offer and spend a little more time getting new clients.

That's where the cash is...

The knowledge and experience will follow.

Don't be afraid to fail!

I completely agree! That's pretty much all I do is find clients, and outsource the actual work. Or if you like to do the work, find a sales person, email marketer, etc..but the majority of your business should be finding clients!

The relationship with the client is where the focus must be. I agree with your post. I had a flourishing offline business over 20 years ago and without this precious relationship, my businesses would of struggled. I know because I been there, done that. I learned over the years that I had to treat customers like Kings or Queens.

Even if you didn't always agree with them, you had to put your ego aside and try to be on the same wavelength as them and agree with them even if you were tempted otherwise. It was a hard pill to swallow sometimes but it worked and I had an endless supply of loyal customers for many years on after that.Due to this retention rate, I didn't have to look so much for new customers. Word of mouth and it wasn't long for new customers to arrive in mass

Sure, getting clients, but you must retain them too or else you'll always keep looking fo clients and it can become a vicious workaholic cycle. How you treat them makes all the difference in the world!

Retaining clients is equally important. Many newbies in their enthusiasm to get new clients forget to retain old ones. The relationship with existing clients will go a long way in getting new ones.

It isn't just the newbies that forget the importance of retaining old clients/customers! One of the first things I do when I take on a new client is to ask them their customer retention rate (when appropriate). Many of them don't know the answer, which is probably just one of the many reasons they need my service.

Back to the original point of the thread, you should absolutely spend the bulk of your time acquiring new clients; it's one of the best ways to grow your company. Sure, you can sell vertically to your existing clients, but not everyone will need or want additional services from you.

  • Great post Ryan.

I think this is one of the most challenging aspects for people new to offline marketing, particularly if they are coming into it from online where they haven't really had to deal with people.

Its very easy to get caught up in 'getting yourself up-to-date with the latest in google places etc etc' but the bottom line is the only thing that actually earns you money is clients! I struggled with this at first and had to be really disciplined about setting aside blocks of time every day ( I call them 'power hours') where I do NOTHING except lead generation. This has made a big difference.

The key isn't getting clients, the key is getting yourself to the point where clients trying to get you. Nothing makes any form of business easier than leverage.

I agree with you, but when you are just starting out, you have to get your first clients. Then as your business builds, you can leverage yourself through existing clients through mainly referrals.

Setup a referral reward system for instance.

They get a free service or a gift card for getting you a new client.

I would say 20% of your business is getting clients, while 80% of it comes from future services by your existing clients. You could even charge more the next time an existing client wants to use your services again. If you did a great job the first time around, they more than likely will pay you at a higher rate if you set one.

I completely agree. Majority of your business needs to be connecting with prospects, winning them over, engaging with them and learning their business and needs. Don't sell to them right off the top.

Ryan, I think the most valuable thing you've said here is "don't be afraid to fail". Fear of failure is the biggest reason I think most people fall prey to "analysis paralysis". I myself have been guilty of this in the past, but as you say the cure is taking action, and that's what everyone must do in order to be successful.

I have been taking action for almost 6 months now. Every day. Not one client yet. I feel really close though...its just gotten to the point where it is really frustrating and tiresome.

Yep, that's my biggest failing point in my offline business. Just getting myself out there and in front of potential clients. It can be really hard though, especially for someone like me who doesn't prefer that face-to-face direct sales thing.

Learned an important lesson though, make sure you are suited for whatever type of business you start.
