I don't consider myself a newbie (I've been selling services to offline businesses for about 4 years), but when it comes to getting serious about building this into a consistent and long-term income, I am a newbie

I'm curious to hear from other newbies what their biggest obstacle is getting into this business. Client acquisition? Lack of technical knowledge? Not knowing what services to sell? Financial? ALL OF THE ABOVE?

I'm putting my bet that most would say just getting the business is the hardest part...

    Alright, I'll bite...

The hardest part for me is handling (learning) all the little web related technical tasks. My background is in computer networking and hardware. I've had to learn cPanel and the WHM for example. Not 'hard', but time consuming.

Sure it's easy to outsource a big website build, a custom FB fanpage, or a mobile site etc... But what about when a new client wants to move his website to my hosting? I don't mind learning or experimenting on my dime, but on the clients it's scary when you can really bugger it all up!

How about minor webpage tweaks or updates that are constantly requested as time goes on? That's a hassle to outsource as it's a simple task if you know what your doing, but a big huge time-sink if you're learning on the job.

A huge downside to outsourcing all the little technical tasks via places like Fiverr is permissions. Giving away cPanel access is just asking for trouble at some point.

Looking back, it seems like I've always had a part time sales job in one capacity or another. Selling clients is pretty easy for me. Seeing the 'big picture' and directing what needs to be done for ranking, and building their sales funnel is also relatively easy for me.

The constant thorn in my side is technical as all things web related requires such a variety of knowledge. It's not like I can just sit down and absorb a book on HTML and be OK.

I'd have to lean SQL, PHP, CSS, JAVA, etc... to be a confident web-guy.

PS I despise graphics work. Thank gawd that's easily outsourced!
