Can You Guarantee a ROI?

Hi Everyone,

I am new to offline marketing and I just had my first client meeting. Although the meeting went very well, I realized I did not speak enough about ROI. I'm curious, can you guarantee someone a ROI?

I'd like to be able to confidently tell the chiropractor something like ... "Ok, the average lifetime worth of one patient is $3000 and you are investing $1500. I guarantee I will double your ROI or will work for free."

Do any of you make guarantees like this? Can you make a guarantee like this? I think it would be a big game change in upcoming meetings if I could confidently say this but I don't want to dig myself in a hole.

    Guarantees are a tricky thing.

    In a way a guarantee makes the whole selling process easier because the risk is much smaller for the client.

    But ... you MUST be able to deliver or your going to be a poor man.

    For me though, I have been able to make some big sales and get clients to pay some large fees without mentioning a guarantee.

    I'm sure you can do the same.

    honestly, if you can't guarantee them certain results you shouldn't be doing marketing for other business owners.

    if i hired someone to train my telemarketing team and they couldn't improve the sales, i would be pretty pissed off. =X

    seo is a bit different because the ranking at times varies. but other than that i tell my clients that at the minimum i can double their investment their first month or they can get their money back.

      In answer to the OP' question, no.

      Some may be able to do so, in copywriting however it would be a very unwise move. And copywriters naturally are all about marketing whether to the on or offline market.

      We can word things almost as perfectly as possible, hit every hot emotional button in the book but if you target your business at the wrong audience and miss your target by a mile, are you going to blame your copywriter / marketing consultant for something which patently is outside of their control?

    As mentioned ROI and guarantees are a tricky thing. First, you are not responsible for selling their products or services...they are. Your job is to drive traffic and measure conversions, e.g. the phone ringing or form request for a consultation, etc. Whether the visitor actually spends money with the business is up to them and their sales/close pitch.

    What I tell our new clients is that there are two levels of conversion. 1. Traffic turned into a phone call or email form submission. The second is to close the sale. I explain this and take responsibility for level one. They understand this and it has been acceptable to our clients.

    I think a guarantee is a great way to get your feet in the door. But when it comes to marketing services, your guarantees have to be a slight different. It's not like you can just refund $2000 in services to a client. If you have no previous clients, a guarantee may be the thing that closes the deal. If you have success with delivering on your guarantee, more than likely the business owner will more than likely be willing to do business with you again.
