Cold Calling - Warning !!!

Just came across this news article today:
iTWire - Blatant Do-Not-Call violator fined

I guess the same rules apply to us here making cold calls to business owners, where we would need to check if the business is registered to NOT receive telemarketing calls.

    Residential numbers can be placed on the DNC and you can be fined if you violate this. This does not apply to business numbers although many will tell you they are on the DNC. A business owner can tell us to not call them again and we have an internal tool to note this which will take them off of our list, but this is very different from someone telling us they are not interested (I recycle our lists 4 times per year and recall everyone except those who specifically tell us to take them off the list).

    Consider this. Think of all of the Technology biz dev reps that call into Fortune 500 companies. Think of the Pharmaceutical reps that call into medical offices. The DNC does not apply for businesses or corporate numbers so they are all fair game although there are time parameters that bookend your calling times. Happy dialing!!

      It's hard to tell from this site & participants where the site is domiciled, but in Australia any 'citizen' is able to deny marketing calls via the do-not-call list. In addition, businesses may deny calls to their fax lines.

      I'm always astonished by the attitude of 'rogue marketers' who believe their message is fundamentally more important than the privacy and beliefs of their targets (sorry, potential buyers).

      Comments in the forum thus far seem to deny my last statement. May god have mercy upon their (flame-seared) souls.

        "Rogue marketers" should not be confused with those that use the phone as a legitimate form of lead generation. The bottomline is that many brand name companies use cold calling every day. Google does it. Hubspot does it. In fact, pick a large technology firm and you will find that most of them have Inside Sales teams that reach out to prospective clients. Most SaaS companies do as well. For example, try googling how Salesforce.com built their sales efforts on the backs of their inside sales teams.

        At some point, all of the anti cold calling rhetoric has to stop. There are ways to be effective and there are ways to be extremely ineffective when cold calling. Can you grow a business without it? Sure you can. However, as part of a coordinated sales effort, it can fill the top of the sales funnel which will ultimately lead to revenue.

        I was wondering how a business gets hold of the DNC list and how much it costs.

    as stated above -- there is no do not call registry for biz's.

    congress -- even with its head THAT far up its you-know-what -- realizes having a do not call registry for biz's would SHRINK the economy. Telemarketing is a multi-billion dollar industry (is an incredibly EFFECTIVE way of selling stuff -- even though "everyone" hates it, and "nobody" buys that way!)
