Hello Warriors,

I am wondering where you get your leads. I have been just looking through yellowpages.com but there has got to be a smarter way. I have heard others use Reference USA. Do any of you use this or have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve

I think GroupOn prospecting is a fantastic idea, but you're finding businesses who are already embracing new age marketing and in turn they should be more approachable.

If you're truly looking for offline clients, nothing beats hoofing it and shaking hands. Many businesses are locked down with internet fear and don't know who to trust, and print ads are enormously expensive for them with a low ROI. My best advice is to go explore your neighborhood.

These leads are comparatively expensive but always fresh and current: infousa.com. Target your search in vertical markets or by specialty.

I have been going after the unverified Google Places pages.

Especially the ones already one page one in the Google pack.

Postcards to local businesses can work well if you "play your cards right" (yes, pun intended . Most people I've seen use them will send one postcard and then NEVER bother to follow up That's usually a waste of time energy and money. Pick your target and plan to send a series of postcards! Pick a specific type of business such as "service businesses" or "professional practices" and make sure you have a plan of action when you actually have the opportunity to speak to someone who you want to have as a customer. Send them a series of postcards, one every 3-4 days with each one screaming out another great benefit they'll enjoy as a result of trading a few of their dollars for your service.

Try local networking groups. These are people who are actually on on the street looking for people to talk to about what they do. Their at the networking meetings because they want more customers ... just like you!

Ask for referrals. Referrals from happy customers are the easiest sale you'll ever make. Contact existing customers and tell them you'll create a ? (free face-book page) ? if they can refer ? 3 ? other business owners to you and let you use their name when you contact them.

With all three of the above: Offer a free report that shares some valuable information that they will appreciate you sharing with them. Show that you're willing to be helpful. Show that you can provide valuable and useful information. Share your expertise.

Barter! This is another way we've been able to get customers and referrals from people. I've had my car repaired, my house pressure washed, received a couple free lunches and referrals just for "sharing" some useful information about a FREE service online called "Google Places".

After a while, you'll be turning down clients

It will happen, it just takes a little time and a little work.
