Question About Cameras

OFFLINE MARKETING

I know practically nothing about cameras, but it seems like you can get a pretty good digital camera nowadays for around $100. I was looking, for example, at the Kodak EasyShare M590. This is a camera and not a camcorder, but it does shoot HD video. Would this be good enough to shoot some short videos for offline clients?

Since I'm not looking to shoot full length movies, I'm hoping I can get away with getting a camera rather than a camcorder. I suppose even a smart phone might work, but that would look a little amateurish. So would a low cost digital camera do the trick for this purpose?

Ok, that's probably good advice about brand names. But I'm really wondering what the difference is between a camera that shoots video and a camcorder, and at what point you'd need the latter.

You might want to check what the resultant format is for the video option on the camera. In other words, even though it says "HD" it may be in a format that you have to convert, and unless you are familiar with lossless conversion, you may be working with a difficult video file format.

For example, check whether or not the video file is compatible with YouTube requirements.

Peter, I'll have to look into issues of converting files. I also have a Mac, so that might make a difference too.

It does not look like the M 590 has an external mic input.
Being able to plugin an external mic, like a lapel mic, is the reason why the Kodak Zi8 is highly recommended for those looking for a good cheap hd video camera

This is a good video camera very small it cost approx. $100.00 +/- you can record 2 hours of video. This is it: Flip UltraHD Video Camera - Black, 8 GB, 2 Hours.
