Lock in mobile website development EASILY with this tip

Hey guys, Mac the Knife here.

Ok, who here does NOT have a smart phone? If you don't, well, what the hell are you doing man???

Anyways...this tip will get you a ton of sales which can lead to upsells and of course referrals.

If you have an appointment with a client, simply ask what their website url is. While you are speaking with them, simply pull their site up. Chances are, they won't have a mobile solution...simply say "Oh no...I didn't realize you didn't have a mobile friendly website...we need to take care of that asap." or something along those lines. Don't ask them them, tell them. You will be doing them a FAVOR! Most business owners don't even have this on their radar but when they realize how cost effective it is as well as how many people are using smart phones to access the internet (which you can surely provide them) it is a no brainer.

Now, you DON'T have to have an appt for this to work...I have done it at networking events while speaking with folks...it actually works a little TOO good...kinda unfair advantage...you don't want to make them feel stupid of course, only in that this is an oversite and you can remedy it for them...this works for facebook pages as well of course...

I know there is a lot of talk about mobile websites on this forum, but why does a business need them?

If you have a smartphone (iPhone/android) then you can browse the full website easily.

I personally hate getting sent to a dumbed down mobile site...I have an iPhone, the whole point of the iphone/android browser is to view websites like a desktop.

For me personally it is annoying going to a non mobile site on my phone. You have to scroll back and forth, zoom in and out, etc.. so it really is useful

There are many reasons why one would want a mobile optimized site. The main ones being ease of use (no scrolling or zooming), speed, and prioritization of information. Sure, you may want to view their regular website but there are plenty of people out there who do not. They are looking for things like opening hours, contact information, directions, etc, and they want the information as fast and as easily as possible.

There is also a lot of technology that works on regular PCs that are not supported by the majority of mobile devices. Things like flash. There are also plenty of mobile devices out there with screens much smaller than an iphone screen. Just because a site is easy for you to look at does not mean its the same for everyone. I have a Droid and a Blackberry phone for testing and they both have very small screens.

You know, I've asked myself the same question. The main benefit for having a mobile website is just the speed, making flash work, some devices like the iPad won't load a site that isn't mobile friendly. Because honestly, if you don't have a smartphone you more than likely don't use the internet on your phone at all. Lets say you have a Razor... in reality there is like a .3% chance you are going to be using the internet on that phone anyway lol.

Something I always say to people when I'm trying to sell them mobile-friendly websites: in 2012, there will be more people surfing the web via their phones, than via computers.

    It's a new era.

I walked into a real estate office with both versions on my phone... the "main" site that they had their qr code linked to, and a mobile optimized site I created. I showed them their site first and asked if they could read any information. They said, "all you have to do is spread it out" (reverse finger pinch screen). I then showed them that you have to scroll back and forth to access all the info.

Then, I brought up the site I designed, with the fit to screen size feature, the instant "tap to call", "tap for Google map directions","email" buttons...

Let's just say...... they "get it now".

As a side note, decorating qr codes with colors, images, logos, etc. is the way to go IMO..... better eye candy than the plain B&W squares!

We've been doing custom branded QR codes for a couple months now and are seeing some impressive results. We're also compiling some stats that we've been gathering that show the likelihood of consumers scanning a B&W QR vs a branded QR...There is a profound difference.

Very cool! That is high tech at its best. I understand that some think that just having a smart phone is enough, but it isn't. In fact, many mobile sites are great in that they only provide very SPECIFIC info and call to actions, not all the fluff that is on their main site.

Killer! Glad I could be of help. I started talking about mobile sites at a board meeting the other day and all these older business owners were dumbfounded...two of them asked "Does my company have one of those?" and they were the CEO's...hahaha

I would love to see some of your data if you are offering it out there. Are you doing mobile sites as well, or just QR codes? Do you allow others to use you as an outsources for QR code creation?

I agree 100% with what you are saying.

I read all the time even with online sales letters that you must show the prospect their pain, show a solution, then offer the service.

In this example it would be as follows:

    PAIN:

The prospect website is not mobile optimized and they are losing out to their compeitiors by potential customers going elsewhere as they cannot view their website and navigate easily on their smart phones.

    SOLUTION:

You can provide a mobile optimized website for them at a great price easily to bring them more customers.

    SERVICE:

Sign contract and deliver service on time
