Google Author Markup Help

I anyone sure of exactly how Google's author markup really works. I've watched a Matt Cutts video and read the Google webmster tutorial but am still not sure of exactly how the link back to my Google profile has to be structured. Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm with Tom. I have followed the updated instructions from Matt Cutts and put the code on the page I want associated with my Google+ profile but Rich Snippet is not showing the connection.

    Anyone have any assistance they can lend?
