Local Keyword(s) + Google Places = STUMPED :-(

Say you're checking keywords in the keyword tool, and the local search shows up 10k+ searches with low competition.

However, when you check it in google search, there's not one "places" listing for any business.

Is it possible to get an 1st page A ranking, if there aren't any prior listings for a somewhat viable keyword?

Also, what does it mean if it's listed a a medium competition keyword, without any "places' listings?

Did you click over to places and see, or are you just assuming that because you see no places listings in the organic results their aren't any places listings.

@Russ, I'm speaking on the latter.

Sometimes Google wont show Places for certain search terms. Thats one thing about Google is they are always changing and doing different things.

Sometimes I was able to get a new Place listing if none where showing.

Yeah Dan, that's what I am getting at. Actually certain industries don't get the privilege of having places listings display in the organic results at all.

This is stumping me too. My target city has just over a million population but no places listing in organic for computer repair. However all the surrounding cities that have just over 100k population all have places listings in the organic results. Just doesn't make sense sometimes.
