OFFLINE MARKETING

A client of mine is interested in it, and I want to learn how to get started with it. Anybody have a good suggestion of where to start?

What type of Reputation Management services are they looking for? There are quite a few-- managing Yelp/Google reviews, cleaning up negative websites from search results, and even full blown PR strategies to help them out with general negative press.

Personally I stay away from Reputation Management in terms of fake reviews-- I think that over the long term if it comes out that a business was writing fake reviews for themselves it can really come back to haunt them.

In terms of RipOffReport removals and things like that, make sure you have a very solid SEO background because those projects are very technical to pull off. Really get an understanding of backlinking and you'll be able to figure out how to "remove" (which is really suppressing) negative websites.

Mostly managing Yelp/Google reviews, managing social media mentions and such. I know its a few services that offer it, but I wanted to know is there a more organic way to go about it without looking for a service to white label it from.

In that case, I would more position yourself as a consultant to help them on these things. Radian6 (Radian6 - Social Media Monitoring and Engagement) has some very good social media monitoring tools that the provide. What you can do is set up that service for the business owner and then manage it for them for a monthly fee.

Even though there are other platforms that provide what you offer, many business owners don't want another thing on their plate to manage, so if you can manage it for them and show them why it is worthwhile, they will pay you for it. Just position yourself as a consultant to help implement these tools and you won't be perceived as competition to the tools.

along with radian6, marchex is another company that provides reputation monitoring...they seem like a great company to work with, heard lots of positive things about them..worth checking out

Hey SubUrbanHype here's another WSO on the topic that I picked up and highly recommend:

Online Reputation Management Hero

What I liked about this WSO and the authors is, as they put it, they are "in the trenches" doing this stuff and have landed big deals from which they're willing to share their experience. I also liked the fact that you can reach out to them via a simple phone call. They offer great support and are really down to earth.

If you decide not to go that route there are a couple books which I've read on the topic and highly recommend as well:

Radically Transparent - Got some useful information out of it

Google Bomb! - Really good book written by an attorney who started an Online Reputation Managment firm. This attorney is a well known in some circles for defending Internet Marketers.

I hope my post was helpful. For me the difference was being able to lean on someone with questions but that's just me. You may decide to just buy and read the books and be good to go!
