SMS/Mobile Marketing Consulting Cost

Hey there I been investigating and reviewing packages / prices i will be charging businesses. now from what I hear is that most people will not even manage their campaigns or update their websites on their own.

So the cost that we are posting or advising them of first is that going to include managing their campaigns / mobile websites or is this an extra cost at all times???
or should I be up front and make my prices higher from the start including the management cost?

How are you guys doing it?

    Good question...I'm glad you asked.
It'll be interesting to see what others are doing.

I'd suggest a tiered system of pricing. If they do the work...one low price
Then step up your fees based on the services you are providing...
Three tiers works good. Of course, you'll charge a premium monthly fee for full service.

I have been doing a management of my clients campaigns for an additional $x a month. I have almost too many clients to keep up with as I have to send 250 messages throughout the month on top of my 9-5 j-o-b and sales of SMS on the side. I have just changed the options that my provider has so that I can give them the option to manage it themselves and save the management fee. I make a little less but have more time for sales and I can add unlimited clients if they are doing their own management.
Granted, it has taken me over half of a year to get where I am but I would say the best idea is a hybrid system. Charge the same for the mark up of the messages but offer the management of the system at a cost.
      Good luck

It sounds like you have a great book of clients, BKH. Doesn't your SMS system have a scheduler? It seems your life would be a whole lot easier if you could schedule your client's campaigns out for 3 months in advance and then sit back and let your software send the messages at the scheduled times. You could then still collect the management fee while assuring that the system is being used.

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

That was my question as well iolaus. My main thing is the copywriting, marketing and seo, but offer mobile marketing because it's so easy and so automatic as well if set up right.

With mobile marketing, I just set up their campaigns a month or two in advance if they know what they are and then offer an option for them to contact me for last minute promotions if come up. Then if I'm out and about can simply log in from my phone and shoot the message out if it's a last minute thing and they need it (which rarely happens).

I've seen a lot of people on here talk about mobile marketing, but think a lot of people are really making it way more complicated then it has to be. The key is to make it as simple as possible for the clients and you and to make sure they are using it.

If they send a message out or have you send one message out every month or two, not going to be nearly as effective as could be which means they won't get the results they want and they will stop. On the flip side, if using it and getting results, they will continue.

Hey Iolaus, thanks for the idea. I do have the ability to schedule all of the messages out but typically what I get is an email at noon saying they want a message to go out at 4:00. I guess if I were to position it better to my customers I could end up on the better side of it without missing the extra revenue.

On a side note, are you from vegas? Do I know you?

    Thanks for the heads up....
I was wondering because most clients will manage their own campaines because they are too busy it can cause the businesses to stop using my services.
Do you think doing maybe doing the management for the first few months to get them off their feet and then offer them to do it themselves after maybe a 1hr training?

I think you hit the nail on the head with that approach Herb!
Manage it to show them it works then give them the option of handing it off to them at a lesser cost (minus the management fee).
      Good luck to you,

I agree that mobile apps are very cool, but I have over 200 on my Android (99% free) and find myself deleting a few every week to reduce the clutter. Not sure I'd be willing to download an app from a local business without some serious incentives or discounts.

Not the cheapest. Twilio would be only $10 for 1000 texts.

Is there a difference between short code services and Twilio in regards to sending and receiving costs?

Correct me if I am wrong but...Doesn't twilio charge for both receiving and sending?
Subscriber sends a text to subscribe = Twilio cost 1 cent
Send out a text = Twilio cost 1 cent

Does short code SMS services charge for receiving a subscribing text like this?

I saw sdentrepreneur comment but have to disagree. With apps you have to reply on someone opening the apps to see the offer. I have downloaded lots of apps to my Iphone but very rarely open them up.

With SMS marketing the message is in your face and get opened up very quickly.

Lets me ask you this question. How many times have you been in a room with a bunch of people when a text message alert went off to see the majority of them take out their phone to check for a message?

      I agree with K60MALL,

When a first time user gets a new smartphone, the app world is a shiny new object and they find some cool apps to put on their desktop. However, after the first month, app downloads plummet as the newness of it wears off. Game apps continue to do well for some.

SMS still has a fantastic open rate as everyone is attached to their phone from the moment they wake up. Time will tell but text fatigue will likely enter in as the marketplace gets crowded with people trying to get consumer attention through their phones. Consumers will be more selective with who they allow to text them. Texters will have to be careful to craft worthwhile messages and not overdo it.

To use an analogy. I've signed up for email lists when I've purchased WSOs. You have to opt in to get the cheese, I get that. Inevitably, many or maybe even most of the list owners email me almost everyday, sometimes twice a day constantly promoting someone else's WSO. I can't keep up with it so I unsubscribe. When crap is promoted, my opinion of them is diminished going forward.

Hook a client on the value and ROI (which is huge) and then the start up fee covers your time for training them and creating graphics to use on FB, menus, etc...then you get your monthly reoccurring...win/win for the IMer and client.

I use TXT180....simple, effective, and reliable.
