I just landed my first ecommerce client. What wordpress option do you recommend for me to do the site. Thanks

    Go for a plugin - not a theme -
my WP mantra = themes for appearance and plugins for functions -
I am a bit of a newbie in this area too
If the site sells less than a dozen or so items (and does not require shipping built in) look at WordPress › WordPress Simple Paypal Shopping Cart « WordPress Plugins - currently on my second one that requires more so went with
    WordPress › WP e-Commerce « WordPress Plugins
so far I am liking it - next step is to configure the shipping - I have found this a bit tricky last time required a few custom mods - hope for an easier run this time
    cheers
    Danny

I built a store with 60+ items using wp ecommerce and was very satisfied with it.

PM me if you have any questions.

I used an ecommerce theme from themeforest. There's enough designs to find a style that meets most businesses. I think it gives the site a better feel then just a plugin.

I would recommend using a theme with built in e-commerce functionality. I subscribe to elegantthemes.com - it is $40 a year and provides a nice selection of premium themes for a variety of purposes.

The reason is the fact that some e-commerce plugins don't play nice with some themes... often you have to buy a theme from the plugin creator for them to work right - so do you homework if you decide to go that route or you could end up wasting a lot of time.

make sure you are charging enough for the ecommerce site though, even though wp-ecommerce has a great UI it is still very time consuming. Also it requires well optimized product images so make sure you get really good product pics.

Shopperpress is good but if you ever run into any snags there are a few other great plugins on the market.

    cart66.com
    tribulant.com
    shopplugin.net

Also, if you plan on integrating an affiliate program then use a premium plugin like affiliate royale.

    affiliateroyale.com

    Good luck.

It's worth mentioning that cart66 integrates with gravity forms to make a truly powerhouse wp ecommerce system. Just grab the dev licenses for both and you'll be good to go for as long as you're making WP sites. You'll make your money back on your first client, and then some.

Gravity forms just on its own is worth it as well if you like powerful form management.

Yeah, forgot to mention that. GF + cart66 is an awesome combo when creating ecommerce sites on WP.

I actually dropped the shopp plugin.
