who to address the envelope to

When mailing hotels a letter offering online services, who do I address the letter to, do I write the word 'manager' on the envelope or 'owner'? or what? Same question for restaurants. I want to make sure my letter gets into the right hands.

Forget the letter. Use a post card with a title like "Get More Customers To Your Restaurant Using QR Codes". Can be any title, doesn't matter. A title, bullet points and your contact info, QR Code taking them to your sales page.

Letters are boring. Be short and to the point. Followup a few days after they receive the post card. The card will get to the right person in most small businesses.

I did research on the chain of command. Is the "sales director" the same as General Manager?

If you're not going to take the time to find the NAME of the PERSON you want to help, it won't matter what medium you use.

How compelled are you when you receive a piece of mail addressed to OCCUPANT?

Also, letters are NOT boring if they're done correctly.

You're right. How do you find out the name of the person? If I am addressing this to the sales director of the hotel, how do I find out his name?

        Call the hotel and ask.

And make sure you know the sex, and correct spelling of the name.

haha.. sometimes it's too easy to get caught up in high tech we forget about the "offline-online" tech. email? fb? twitter? ahhh and the phone! but all fun aside, sex n correct spellg is a good detail to get.

Are we sure the front desk person will know anything about a sales director? Seems like I'm going to have to ask to speak to a manager, then ask him if he knows; if not, ask him to speak to a higher up then ask THEM, etc. Then, once I have the name of the sales director, how do I even know how to contact him, what if they don't know the actual address to send the letter to...In other words, a hassle. Unless anyone else knows where I can find out the name of the sales director and contact information..

Also, beware advice like "don't send a letter; send a postcard."

Smart marketing is all about testing.

+1 get the name first or be prepared to send 100x the mail to get a response.

Pick up the phone and get an appointment.

    Then throw away the letter.

Yeah, tell Dan Kennedy it's a stupid idea to send a letter before calling for an appointment.

Hi, I think Don Alm's post would be a nice suggestion for you

    Method 2 - PRE-CONDITIONED CONTROLLED MAILING;
This is my 2nd choice and usually I use this when working a town a few miles away. My goal with this is to "Prepare Prospects" for my Personal Visit....and FIND those that are somewhat interested in learning more about "Mobile-Sites")

I've already "Googled" the Categories I'm interested in and looked at their sites....so....I phone the businesses and ask to speak to the owner.

"Hello....is the owner in? Hello Mr Owner....I'm a website designer and I see you have a nice looking website HOWEVER....with most people nowadays using Mobile Phones...I noticed your website does NOT fit on a Mobile Phone Screen. You are missing a lot of potential customers by NOT having a "Mobile-Ready" site.

It's too hard to explain what I do....on the phone so....I'd like to send you an "Info-Packet". What's your Mailing Address there?"

He gives me his address and....I can either send my "Info Packet" and follow-up with a phone call after he receives it to set an appointment OR....what I usually do is....GO VISIT him IN-Person! He's expressed an interest in having me MAIL him more info so....Why Not Take It To Him IN-PERSON?"

With selling Mobile-Ready websites....I usually take a few minutes and make up a Sample Site to show him....telling him what I designed can be changed.

And....again....I show him the difference in his site being Mobile-Ready and not being Mobile-Ready.

With going "IN-Person" to my prospects....they SEE me and I can "sense" where their interest is at. And....there's NO better way to BUILD DESIRE than to SHOW WHAT THEIR SITE LOOKS LIKE....ON A MOBILE PHONE....that's in front of their nose!

We're talking POWER here! PSYCHOLOGICAL Power! Their Mobile Site is ALREADY MADE...all they have to do is...."ACCEPT IT"!

    CA-CHING!

    Thanks for reading,
    Don Alm....Sales Guy

I would call and ask for the marketing coordinator there, or the VP or regional district manager of sales.
