Adwords express vs Google places optimisation

Hi Everybody, I'm currently working on getting a decent position for my Google places page & I'm wondering how the adwords express program feeds into what I'm doing.

Basically it's not clear to me which route is best to follow.

A) my places page has a very poor result for my market & keywords, I know it's not fully optimised, I'm looking for a suitable WSO which contains the most effective strategies but there's still no guarantee I'll get in the 7 pack.
B) Adwords express ..... my understanding is that it's basically adwords ... for your places page .... with a blue pointer ? If I were to apply the adwords express program to my places page, presumably I'd just be able to skip into the top results just by placing decent bids on the search terms ?

So What I'm wondering is ....
A) Is my understanding of adwords express stated above ... acurate or am I missing something ?
B) If I were to optimise my places page (So well that it got a top 7 positions) & and use adwords express as well .... could I get 2 results in the 7 pack ? (One organic & one paid)

Really I just want on that map ........ for free if possible nice shiny blue pointer would be a bonus !

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'll paste my direct link here since you're not a War Room Member (which you should be).

That links takes you to my Google Places free guide, which has over 800 downloads and very good reviews. I hope it helps with your organic stuff.

So, basically adwords express is exactly what you describe. You get a blue pointer. The only downside is that your result is still in the yellow "ad box" at the top rather than right there in the 7 pack. You can see what I mean here:

    flowers dallas - Google Search

So, obviously the best thing would be to have as much exposure on that first page as possible - Ad, organic map, then several organic non map listings like youtube, directories, etc.

Thanks for the Google Places free guide. farkry proceed with caution when using any kind of adwords programs. Might ban you for no good reason.

There are a few things I'd like to clarify here:

    1) You are missing a few things regarding AW Express:

    - you cannot bid on keywords
    - you can only set your daily budget, you cannot choose your target keywords
    - your target keywords are determined automatically
    - you can get the blue pin via normal AdWords ads too
    - AW Express's only advantages are: it is easy to use (i.e. for complete newbies) and it shows your reviews count and rating from your respective Google Places listing
    - AW Express is much more expensive generally

    2) If you optimize your Place page (+you will definitely need to optimize your website too) and get an AdWords Express ad, you could have two results on the SERP. However, if I were you I was going to read carefully the following article: Boost Ad Buries A-Business Listing–> Not According to Google
