I just heard Google is going to start indexing posts made to facebook from outside sites,, anyone else hear this?

    Okay, that is creepy. All your opinions on everything will surface out when somebody googles you. Better be anonymous. Being too visible on the net is dangerous, careless. It's just not smart.

      A great piece of information to have, but I can't sympathize with people who are concerned about their comments being found. We all should have learned a LONG time ago to be cautious with content we're publishing online. If you're about to leave a comment you'd rather not be identified with, just use an anonymous name for that instance.

      Considering how much Google indexes info online, I think you would be surprised what info they will show online.

      If it's out there, Google will end up with it anyway. Best bet is give them all the good info they want.

    Proper permissions settings nullifies this. How is googlebot going to spider your personal posts if it's not you friend? Permissions awareness is key, just like always...

      The thing to remember is Google, Bing and Yahoo may not index info in respect to privacy settings, but there is a lot more data mining that goes on every day for all kinds of purposes.

      The best bet is if you don't ever want something to come back to haunt you, then don't post it online.

    Guess I need to start cutting down on the political speech. Will probably have some psychos coming after me.

    What is interesting about this, is the rumors of google + going down the drain and not being able to compete with facebook. They know SEOs and IMers watch their announcements closely, and the fact that they will be indexing facebook isn't to help increase the search experience but I believe it is an attempt to hurt facebook. Massive spamming on facebook could cause pretty big problems for the FB user experience. Same thing that happened with myspace.

    Time will tell!

    This is NOT comments you just make on Facebook to your friends on FB.

    Per the article it is:

    Comments published using the platform are accompanied by the user's name, profile picture, and a link to his or her Facebook profile.

    So it is only comments that are posted to Facebook on a 3rd party website using the Facebook comment application platform.
